Who is turning RTV into a tool for slandering the crowd of Albanians

On Friday evening, late at night, in the evening television program, a piece filled with accusations, slander and contempt against the protesters and citizens of Vlorë was aired. Instead of clarifying public opinion, RTV chose to distort the truth and lower the ethical level of public communication. Many citizens saw this as a continuation of the discriminatory and divisive line. Why should public television be turned into a loudspeaker for insulting language? Why is the denigration of an entire city and its people becoming part of official propaganda? The concern is great and responsibility is being demanded from the directors of RTV, from the authors of such materials, and from the state structures that allow them. (Continues on page 4)

We have been killed more treacherously than if we owed anyone anything

Open letter, Mr. President in a level of poverty to be dealt with by the government, further deepened by the non-implementation of the land distribution law, by the undisputed favoring of speculators to the detriment of the peasantry, and by the government's inability to manage the situation. 6. It was said that among the dead and wounded there are not only unemployed and hopeless young people, but also intellectuals, former military officers, and people with professions, who for a long time have been rising up in protest against injustices and social discrimination. No attention for this layer! 7. It was also recalled at this meeting that in our city there has never been any movement against democratic power, nor political demonstrations, but only spontaneous and lawful civic protests against hunger and poverty. These protests have been crushed by force and with tragic consequences. Because of the great concern that compels me to address you with this letter, in the hope that a sincere voice, born of suffering and pain, will be heard, I inform you as follows: In Vlorë, on 15 December 1992, a meeting was held with broad popular participation, where the severe economic and social situation, unemployment, the lack of bread, electricity and fuel, as well as the insecurity that had taken over the city, were analyzed. At that meeting the intolerable situation, the failures of the local authorities, and the government's indifference were openly discussed. Continues on page 2

Tetovë's Message

D. U thaqi, yesterday's meeting of Albanian writers from the Albanian ethnic areas in the former Yugoslavia, expressed that the time has come for real, indeed national, support for Albanians on both sides of the border. In response to the shocking measures of the killing and wounding of 17 December in the Vlorë protest, in order to sensitize the highest circles of the state to the problems troubling citizens, writers from Macedonia, Kosovo and Albania held a meeting in Tetovë. At this meeting, among other things, the concerns of the Albanian population in Macedonia and Kosovo were discussed, and greater national understanding was called for. At the gathering, prominent figures of Albanian literature such as Ali Aliu, Mehmet Kraja, Ruzhdi Ushaku, Ramadan Musliu, Vebi Bexheti, Vullnet Mato, Baki Ymeri, etc., emphasized that the time calls for concrete actions and not empty declarations. They condemned violence, injustice and indifference. (Continues on page 2)

71 FAMILIES OF THE THREATENERS FROM VELLA/VASILIES

71 FAMILIES OF THE THREATENERS FROM VELLA/VASILIES A musician to sound the bell so it may be heard, not to be shown badly. According to the newspaper, those who have come over to their side have unlawfully seized land and property. The shame of such an action is weighing on the entire region. No document proves that the land and properties belong to them. Therefore the return of rights, the restoration of order and the enforcement of the law are demanded. (Continues on page 4)

We raise our voice against this dirty campaign and demand immediate institutional intervention. We welcome today's gathering of women in Tirana and consider it a civic act in defense of the values of Albanian society.
