A LACK OF TRANSPARENCY THAT OPENED THE DOOR TO NEW ABUSES

Who controls our officials? - Is there a special status for the treatment of the President, the Prime Minister, the heads of Parliament, etc.? - For ministers and their escorts who travel abroad, what funds have there been and how much has actually been used? - Who pays the millions from allocations? Meksi, Ahmeti, Uka, Kopliku, Zhuli for their homes (which will soon be privatized)? Violations and abuses of the people's money by the ruling class of the state, the government and the public administration are becoming indisputable phenomena. If they are denounced, they are met with “explanations” and banal justifications, as in the time of the previous government, about “special needs,” “work necessities,” “representation,” “delegations,” etc. The recent case of the trip to Italy by the deputy prime minister, the minister of defense and the accompanying group once again made clear that in the state administration an unacceptable practice is being created for a democratic state. The question arises: is there a defined status for the treatment of the president, prime minister, speaker of parliament, ministers and other state personalities when they travel abroad? If so, how well is it respected? If not, who authorizes it and on what basis is the financing of these trips carried out? Transparency is lacking. It is precisely this lack of transparency that has opened the way to new abuses of public money. Likewise, the question arises about other funds used by high officials. For ministers and their escorts who travel abroad, what funds have there been and how much has been used? Who is responsible for the expenses? Who controls them? The Parliament? The State Control? Or no one? And further: the millions from allocations[?] Meksi, Ahmeti, Uka, Kopliku, Zhuli for their homes (which will soon be privatized), who pays them? Are new privileges being created for a new political elite at the expense of citizens? These are questions that require clear, public and verifiable answers.

From the trial in Shaliën of the two convicted for the events of 2 April

Before the hearing began in the relevant district, the judge read out the composition of the court panel and asked the defendants whether they had any objections. The proceedings then moved on to the examination of the material and procedural questions. The first defendant gave his explanations concerning the events of 2 April and his actions at that time. There was tension in the courtroom and intervention by defense lawyers. The court called for calm and for the normal continuation of the process. Further statements were heard, documents were submitted and several records were read out. The hearing was marked by sharp debates between the parties, especially over the validity of certain pieces of evidence. At the end of the day, the trial was adjourned to another hearing.
