IT IS HONORABLE FOR THE GOVERNMENT TO RESIGN
- Declares Fatos Nano -
Socialists do not shy away from any policy or from the responsibilities it carries
- The work of the PSSH active of the Korçë district was carried out.
The meeting was opened by Skënder Gjinushi, member of the presidency and secretary for political issues.
Responsibility for the appointments of people with files at the embassy and, thereafter, the bitter indignation toward this filthy undertaking cannot be that of the government or anyone else except its head. Therefore, the PS is suggesting, as a matter of principle, to any head of government in Albania who has appointed [who?] someone involved in anti-Albanian activity to resign before public judgment brings him down. These were the words spoken yesterday by the chairman of the Socialist Party, Mr. Fatos Nano, at the meeting held with the basic organization of the PSSH in the Korçë district. In his discussion, Mr. Nano dwelt at length on the causes of the all-round crisis that has gripped the country. It is the result of the failure of the policy pursued by the government and of its inability to overcome the inherited and newly created difficulties along the path of reforms. The Socialists have avoided and do avoid no political responsibility, but the government cannot exploit them to justify its own failures and is making the deep economic and social crisis even more severe. On behalf of the PS, Mr. Nano called on the government to resign, which in this way would make possible, for a peaceful transfer of power, a solution to the crisis through institutional means. He did not rule out the need to organize peaceful protests and demonstrations against the government. Mr. Nano informed the participants in the meeting about the talks being held with citizens and organizations in various districts of the country and about the opposition stance of the PS.
WHY ARE FOREIGN INVESTORS NOT YET COMING TO ALBANIA?
- Interview with docent Anastas Angjeli, member of parliament -
Interviewed by Eduard Kola
[...] for several reasons: the mismatch between the legal framework and the investor’s needs, the lack of infrastructure, unclear property ownership, the low level of administration and of the banks, the lack of political and social stability, as well as our country’s still limited experience with a market economy. [...] There is interest, but not significant investment. For foreign investors to come, real guarantees are needed, not just declarations. Albania must offer legal, fiscal and political security. Only in this way can a favorable climate be created. Deputy Angjeli stresses that economic reform is not moving at the promised pace and that the government has not known how to properly orient development priorities. He also speaks about privatization, the role of foreign capital, and the need for a clear strategy for industry, agriculture and finance.
