THE GOVERNMENT USES VIOLENCE AND POLICE TERROR TO CRUSH THE PEOPLE’S DEMONSTRATIONS

- The same scenario in every district, especially - Fascist actions by some heads of the public order branches PROTEST DECLARATION AGAINST THE PESHKOPI PUBLIC ORDER BRANCH The PS leadership committee in the district of Peshkopi protests against the public order forces and the head of the Peshkopi police station, who repeatedly, and especially yesterday, used physical violence, threats, blackmail and the most disgraceful anti-democratic methods against peaceful protesters, who responded to the opposition’s call for the general strike. Every day it is becoming clearer that the PD and the Meksi government have lost all control over the situation and, unable to govern by democratic methods, are trying to hold on to power through violence and terror. The police forces have carried out arbitrary actions, have detained citizens without any legal grounds, and have exerted pressure on employees of the administration and on participants in the demonstrations. This situation has caused deep indignation among the people and has increased the determination to continue the democratic protests against the policy of economic ruin and political repression. The Socialist Party strongly condemns these acts and demands punishment for those responsible. We call on domestic and international public opinion to identify and condemn these violations of basic human rights. [column text partly illegible in the image, several lines missing][?]

The accusation against the new government and its struggle against the opposition in itself constitute a further devaluation of public trust. Citizens are openly expressing dissatisfaction with the economic policy and the way the PD governs. [partly illegible column text][?]

After the press conference

Did President Berisha finish his speech?!... President Berisha finished his speech?!... “It is not to be overlooked that, precisely on the eve of 14 months in office, the people should see what is happening. It is no shame to lead a country by keeping it on the basis of lies. OUR TOURISM has given and will give high, original and magnificent standards for journalism, especially for us as the opposition. We have never spoken of such displays and nor will we ever present ourselves with fantasies and fabrications at a press conference. The same applies to the matter concerning the so-called “Greek dossier”. The President of the Republic has kept silent about several important issues.” [partly illegible text][?]
