Misery of the forest, misery of the people

The fictitious division of development and tourism — The fault is not the land of the farmer — There are those who, long ago, in meadows with designated pastures and plots almost on the coast, had the land calculated and assigned on the basis of old cadasters and documents, leaving many families who lived off it without bread and without hope. The administration of forests, pastures and tourist areas has often been disorderly and unjust, favoring the powerful and harming the peasants. In many places forests have been cut without criteria, pastures have been left to their fate and tourist investments have remained only on paper. The peasants complain that they have neither firewood, nor work, nor roads, while the state appears only when it comes to fines or bans. In these conditions, the misery of the forest goes hand in hand with the misery of the people. (Continued on page 3)

The President has Poliçan at heart

Berisha has his own work, PD has its own Yesterday, in the town of Poliçan in the district of Skrapar, the President of the Republic, Mr. Sali Berisha, held an election rally. As in all the other election rallies, in Poliçan too, Mr. Berisha spoke at length about the shortcomings of the coalition government of stability and the achievements of democratic power in Albania. But more than in support of the PD candidates for deputies in this district, the President of the Republic focused attention on attacks against the PSSH candidates. In particular, he attacked the PSSH secretary for relations with the public, Mr. Blendi Klosi, whom he said had been an investigator during the time of the dictatorship. For this he abused some so-called documents taken from the archive of the Ministry of the Interior. It is easy to understand why the President of the Republic is behaving this way. There are now less than two days left until the elections, and the election machinery of the Democratic Party has been set in motion by every means, even by outright slander and fabrication. Welcome to Europe

From NATO’s foreboding words, Manfred Wörner arrived before the Albanian parliament Hundreds of members of parliament, with a few dissenting voices, cheered with ovations the NATO delegation that had just entered the hall, led by the secretary-general of the organization, Manfred Wörner. The same enthusiasm, adding cheers with the words: “Welcome to Albania, Mr. Wörner!”, was shown by dozens of other people invited to the session. In the name of the PD, in the name of the owners of all eras, in the name of the victims of communism, in the name of 1,000 things with and without names, the speaker of parliament, Aleksandër Meksi, greeted the distinguished guest with the words: “Welcome to Europe”. Everyone understood what this unexpected phrase meant in that hall, at least in relation to that Western body. If the NATO secretary-general, in his own speech, remained within the known parameters, as politicians in high circles usually do, our speaker of parliament tried to surpass himself to the point of declaring that “Albanians are eagerly awaiting their admission to NATO”. It is natural to hear high Albanian officials speak about Albania’s integration into European organizations, including the North Atlantic Alliance. But this does not at all prevent ordinary Albanians from being more realistic in their assessments and, consequently, from not cheering with such delight for such propaganda “miracles”. Death with 18 injured

STABILIZED ORDER The “Goliases” remained only at the attempt stage; 20 arrested over explosives, 8 from the fire at the Rrëshen market. There are also dead and injured. On the harsh revenge against the suspects, “our Albania” keeps feeding us lies as a daily ration. They are also harming people in the yard. If until yesterday armed gangs had taken over squares, streets and shops, today they are saying that order has been restored. Last night too, in the capital, in Tirana, in Vlorë, and in other cities, gunfire and the wounded did not cease. The current balance according to official data is: 20 arrested as suspects for placing explosives, 8 arrested for arson in the Rrëshen market, 1 dead and 18 injured. Meanwhile the police continue operations. (Continued on page 3)

One for the house

From the outside, the inner walls of the old house looked lifeless. 1993, the city-drawing shepherd thought that not only would the room remain closed, but the owners’ fate would also fade along with the cracked plaster. In this small urban dwelling lived two pensioners, an unemployed son and his wife. Nothing changed, except that the days became harder. Every hope for repair or for better shelter was tied to some campaign promise or some help that never came. The house had become a mirror of their lives: damp, cold and unprotected. Who is the personnel chief at the education directorate in Kuçovë?

Professor A. Pesha’s outcry, in order to defend his party’s candidate, Agron Topçiu, in issue no. 58 of the newspaper “RD”, reveals that he came to his current post from the Ministry of Education, where his “success” included, among other things, the dismissal of the democratic teacher and distinguished activist from Lushnja, Gramoz Çimi. For this service, the former “democrat” was also given the job of personnel director at the regional education directorate in Kuçovë as a gift? Why does Professor Pesha not speak about these “merits”? (Continued on page 3)

A page from Lushnja

Men and women, young men and young women came out on 19 June 1990 to a meeting where they confronted the new parties of that time with high spirit and fiery words. This page recalled a difficult time, but also the belief that change could come through civility and courage. (Continued on p. 4)

PRESIDENT

Here is a variant of the “Blue Bulletin” REPUBLIC OF ALBANIA PRESIDENT No. 159 Prot. Sarandë, 2.3.1993 SECTION OF THE ORGANIZATION PRESIDIUM OF THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY OF SARANDA OF THE PDJSSH OF AGRICULTURE 3 COUNCIL 2. OFFICE COUNCIL TIRANA Subject: the taking and movement against this candidate. Order: political care and attention to be increased with Mr. Saimir Konomi. His earlier activity in leading the front organization in Sarandë at the “Mithat Hoxha” secondary school, and later political engagement in the processes of overthrowing the dictatorship and denouncing the “dictator” on a public platform, created for him in 1990, 1991 and 1992 a political personality and authority in the district. Considering that Mr. Saimir Konomi belongs not only to the young generation but is also an intellectual, he can play a positive role in preparing the organization and in the greater involvement of the youth mass in the district center. 2/ Mr. Saimir Konomi belongs to the Association of Politically Persecuted Persons and to a family with political problems inherited since his grandfather, who was executed in 1946, Mr. Vasil Llapa has made a name for himself. Taking into account his origin and activity, it is necessary to include Saimir on one of the three lists of deputies. It is necessary that his name be presented as independent or in the PD and PBDNJ coalition. By order of the President of the Republic, Mr. Sali Berisha, and with the knowledge of the chairman of the Democratic Party, Mr. Eduard Selami, careful work must be done on his activation as a candidate (as independent or under the PBDNJ label) and to prevent the candidacy of Haxhi Mehmeti. Work in complete secrecy and ensure the implementation of this order. Sarandë. (round seal) (with the signature PD) SECRETARY
