It ended the first anniversary of its coming to power with 377,000 unemployed. Only the unemployed have increased by 80 percent.[?]

At the end of the Bulgarian capital, a meeting of the High Commission for Cooperation and Economic Development was under way, in which military issues dominated. Mr. Werner Hoyer said in his speech that Albania is an important factor for the prospect of expanding European structures. “The security of Albania is in NATO's interest and in the interest of stability in the region itself,” he said.[?] (To be continued on page 6)

Per capita income in 1992 compared with 1990 has fallen by around 40 percent according to calculations made by the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. National income per capita in 1990 was 670 dollars, whereas in 1992, during this period in power, the PD had only 400 dollars per capita. After taking over the government on 22 March, the Democratic Party insisted that the Albanian economy would soon enter a path of recovery. As the months passed, the country faced falling production, the closure of enterprises and rising unemployment.
