WE HAVE ASKED FOR AND INSIST ON THE RESIGNATION OF THE GOVERNMENT OF THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY
It is good that together we work and fight, by every democratic means, to stop the devastation and save democracy and the country from disaster.

- Meeting of the chairman of the Socialist Party, Fatos Nano, with residents of the town of Vrina
After the collapse of the totalitarian system in Albania and the establishment of political pluralism in our country, the Socialist Party of Albania has gained great experience in its political activity. As a responsible party, truly left-wing, democratic and reformist, it has at no moment distanced itself from its role as an opposition force and at the same time has shown itself determined to defend itself from every kind of pressure, arbitrariness and political revenge by the force that came to power in 1992. These positions of the PPSH, expressed publicly in documents, in parliament and in the media, constitute not only proof of political maturity, but also a substantial argument that it is neither the force of the past, nor an obstacle to reforms, nor an opponent of pluralism and democracy, as primitive right-wing propaganda tries to portray it.
The all-round crisis that is deepening in the country and the inability of the new government to cope with the many problems have made it increasingly clear that the path it has followed is the wrong one. PSH has long made public its remarks and objections to the way the country is being governed, to the lack of a program, to subjectivism and to the vindictive treatment of political opponents. We have consistently demanded that this political and economic adventure be stopped, that a normal democratic climate be created and that the way be opened for fair elections and functioning institutions.
From the beginning of 1993, the Socialist Party has made it known to public opinion that the government of the Democratic Party has failed and that its resignation has become a political necessity. We have based this position not on subjective desire, but on concrete facts: the worsening of the people’s lives, the great shortages, unemployment, the ruin of production, the breakdown of public order, corruption, and the inability to guarantee civil rights. Under these conditions, any delay in finding a solution only worsens the situation and makes the consequences for the country even more severe.
We have asked for and continue to insist on the resignation of the government. This is not simply an opposition demand, but a call for national responsibility. It is good that everyone, regardless of political beliefs, should work and fight by democratic means to stop the devastation, to save democracy and to defend the interests of the Albanian people. Only in this way can catastrophe be avoided and the conditions created for a normal political and economic life.
