After Idajet Beqiri, this is the second case in which a party leader is persecuted through the political, police and judicial means of a state with openly totalitarian and neo-dictatorial characteristics, while the PD’s official press has begun formulating threats against political opponents as a whole. The «Witch Hunt» in Albania began in May, to impose brutal terror on the broad working masses amid the profound political, economic and social crisis the country is experiencing, and the people’s tragic plight as they face the mafia-like violation of democracy by collaborators and offspring of those who collaborated with fascism and dictatorship, With the prosecutor Alush Dragoshi’s shameful and irresponsible act, the official justice authorities’ unconditional capitulation under the feet of the ballist-fascist state was signed. It began with the unlawful dismissal of General Prosecutor Maksim Haxhia, with the frontal attack on the independence of the judiciary, with party-parliamentary denunciations of legal dignity, the dismissal of dozens of legal professionals, and even open threats to imprison jurists or lawyers who heed their professional conscience rather than the political-legal ravings of the corrupt rulers. This paralysis of the judiciary is extremely dangerous for the fate of the country and democracy. It paves the way for a succession of political trials, even by exploiting the laws of the dictatorship or inventing new ominous articles and paragraphs that threaten the fate of the people as a whole and of individuals in particular. The frontal attack against the Socialist Party, according to scenarios and schemes drawn up in parliamentary lodges and government-presidential antechambers, began some time ago. It intensified in particular after the Socialist Party announced its demand for the Government’s resignation and new parliamentary elections. The leaders of the PD see themselves as defeated, and are therefore more aggressive than ever. The ballist-bajraktar-fascist clan—Dosti - Toma, Kalakula - Cela - Butka, etc.—supported by criminals of the Gjomarkaj type and other killers, openly declared even on state television, having completely usurped the PD, is exploiting the power the people entrusted to it in the name of democracy to weave a vengeful, revanchist, police-state regime that steals national wealth, created through the people’s great toil and many sacrifices. The PS Chairman Selami, this theatrical replica of the dictatorial era, tours Albania with carrot and stick, openly threatening the opposition electorate and its representatives. I was handed the written request together with a covering letter signed by Mr Arbënor, on 26.07.1993, at 17:15, on «Mylym Shyri» Street by the Albanian embassy, when I had set out to go home before I … There is a written document, which has not been registered or stamped but is signed by Mr Arbnori. At 10:00 on that date, after reading the request, I sent Mr Arbnori the following letter: To the Chairman of the Presidium of the People’s Assembly Mr Pjetër Arbnori Mr Chairman, Through your letter No. dated 26.07.1993, we have just been informed of the General Prosecutor’s request to lift the immunity of MP Fatos Thanas Nano. Also, as instructed by you, we are asked to provide the written opinion of the Committee on Rules, Immunity and Mandates. Before the meeting, I, as chairman of this Committee, need to take several necessary steps. Thus, immediately, before studying the relevant material, I will request a meeting with the investigator in the criminal case against MP Fatos Nano and then I will also request a meeting with the General Prosecutor, Mr Alush Dragoshi. I am not the first political victim of the ballist-fascist state apparatus being revived in Albania by the revanchist clan led by Sali Berisha. For over a year, justice in Albania has been subjected to pressure and threats of the kind used in feudal courts by the party led by Sali Berisha; for over a year, every honest Albanian has been threatened with prison or with having their family’s bread taken away if they dare demand political and social justice. We all know the facts; we warned about them long ago, denouncing the crimes of today’s government and the dead-end path into which this government, this regime, has led the country. I, sisters and brothers, have long told the Party, its members and supporters, and the people the truth about the pseudo-accusations being brought against me.
