The opposition is in fact more interested in respecting human liberties and rights

Yesterday's meeting between the Chairman of the Socialist Party, Mr. Fatos Nano, and the leaders of the opposition parties, concerning the alarming situation that has been created in the country, has ended. At this meeting, developments were discussed, from the demonstration by the citizens of Shkodër to the bloody clash between the police and the inhabitants of the city of Lezhë, and in particular yesterday's events in Fier. At this meeting it was agreed that the opposition political forces should address a petition to Parliament, the President of the Republic, and the Council of Ministers, expressing protest against the police violence systematically used against the peaceful demonstrations of citizens. The petition will call for the resignation of the Minister of the Interior. Likewise, it will also seek the creation of a parliamentary commission of inquiry, with representatives of the opposition political forces, to shed light on the recent events in Shkodër, Lezhë, and Fier. This morning, representatives of the opposition parties will hold an expanded meeting to coordinate their common position and determine further steps.
