THE P-D IS DRIVING THE COUNTRY INTO A GENERAL CRISIS

Slander plus scandals plus arrogance and helplessness equal today's government Meeting of the General Steering Committee of the Socialist Party THE SOCIALIST PARTY IS READY AND DETERMINED TO FACE ANY CHALLENGE - Statement by the General Committee of the PSSh Last night, at 8:00 p.m., the General Steering Committee of the Socialist Party of Albania, meeting with the participation of its chairman, comrade Fatos Nano, expressed its position on the political developments of the last few days. In 3-4 hours, the state of the country and the measures of the Party and its leading forums were analyzed in detail. It was responsibly assessed that [..] Albania has been plunged into a general crisis into which the government and the president have entered with their policy. All labels and slander against the opposition are part of the old strategy to cover up economic failures, unemployment, scandals and government incompetence. The Committee stressed that the PS is prepared to face any political and democratic challenge and will firmly defend constitutional rights. In the discussions held, it was made clear that verbal violence, administrative pressure and tendencies to criminalize the political opponent are unacceptable in a democratic state. Political dialogue and respect for the law were called for. The General Committee of the PSSh assessed that the country needs calm, work and concrete solutions for the economy, not provocations and artificial clashes. Tirana, 28 April 1993
