THE PEOPLE DEMAND EVERY DAY A CHANGE IN THE WAY OF GOVERNING, THE RESIGNATION OF THIS INCOMPETENT GOVERNMENT

The General Steering Committee of the Socialist Party met The Socialist Party will not retreat into itself so that the revanchists can implement Fatos Nano's words Yesterday at noon, the Chairman of the Socialist Party and the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly of Albania, Servet Pëllumbi, presented a broad political report before the GSC. Among other things, this report states: Beyond the positions behind the walls of the Assembly toward the Socialist Party, this is a time when we must resolutely defend the interests of the broad strata of the people, workers, peasants, pensioners, intellectuals, youth, women, the unemployed, by being the voice of their concerns. We cannot reconcile ourselves with today's situation. The current government has failed in the economy, in public order, in the fight against corruption, in confronting poverty, and in the fair treatment of political opponents. Instead of greater dialogue and understanding, political revenge, dismissals from work, administrative pressure and arbitrariness are increasing. This situation has aroused deep discontent among the people. The people demand every day a change in the way of governing, the resignation of this incompetent government. The report also stressed that the Socialist Party will not close in on itself and will not leave the field to the revanchists. It will remain an open, democratic, responsible political force ready to defend the national and social interest. At the meeting there was also discussion about the severe economic situation, the decline in production, shortages in the market, rising unemployment and the impoverishment of the population. BOXES FOR THE PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC AND THE PRIME MINISTER

When will the two of them denounce why their relatives became the local rich, who appeared as if from a comet from the moon? Or has it become clear that they are flying as if in a seat? We must learn why, in 1993, parliament is turning into an arena of empty speeches and how far the road to boundless enrichment for a handful of people, moreover powerful ones, is opening up. Here are the serious questions that the all-powerful and inexplicable confusion has posed to our politics. (Continued on page 16)
