The student day in Tirana has got off to a good start. Our correspondent reports from Kosovo on the two-week university and Eurosocialist youth conference held in Tirana, which brought together a large number of students and young people. Students from the Koliq school, the Albanian university gates and other centres across the country took part. In the opening speech it was emphasized that this gathering is being held within the framework of the activities of the Eurosocialist youth organization and in order to further democratize university and social life. Discussion focused on the state of higher education, students' problems and the prospects for youth organization. The participants also dwelt on the country's political and social situation, expressing concern over unemployment, poverty, the lack of social justice and the failure of reforms. At the end, a declaration was adopted calling for greater representation, dialogue and democratic reforms.
Later, a large rally was held in Tirana in which participants demanded the government's resignation and solutions to the acute economic and social problems. The banners read: "Real democracy", "Work for everyone", "Social justice". According to the organizers, around 150,000 people took part in the gathering.
FATOS NANO RECEIVED THE DELEGATION OF THE DEMOCRATIC UNION OF VORIO-EPIRUS
Yesterday there were talks between the Socialist Party (PSS) and the Democratic Union of Vorio-Epirus (BDV), and a statement by PSS chairman Fatos Nano on the elections taking place in Greece. Taking the floor, PSS chairman Fatos Nano said that good-neighbourly relations with Greece must be preserved in the interest of both peoples and that the rights of the Greek minority in Albania must be respected. On the part of the delegation, interest was expressed in political cooperation and in solving the problems that concern the minority. The meeting also touched on the difficult economic situation, emigration and the need to maintain stability in the region.
Fatos Nano received the ambassador of India
Yesterday the chairman of the Socialist Party, Mr. Fatos Nano, received at the party headquarters the extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of India to our country, Mr. T. N. Kaul. At this meeting they discussed bilateral relations and the possibilities for further development of economic, cultural and political cooperation between the two countries. The interlocutors emphasized the importance of strengthening contacts and mutual understanding. There was also talk about the political situation in Albania and the democratic processes under way.

TELEVISION CONTINUES ITS MANIPULATIONS
During yesterday's day, state television broadcast only part of the images from the demonstrations and distorted their meaning, avoiding the banners and the main demands of the participants. On behalf of the party, our editorial office protests against this one-sided attitude and calls on the relevant bodies to respect professional ethics and the citizens' right to full information.
