IN DURRËS — cigarette tobacco factory

HUNDREDS OF WORKERS ON GENERAL STRIKE For the past 5 days, around 1,000 workers and employees of the Cigarette Factory in Durrës have gone on strike. On the first day of the strike, the workers and employees did not put forward any economic demands, but only asked for the decision to raise the retirement age to be withdrawn. Later they also presented several other demands. The strikers are also demanding the cancellation of the order to dismiss 56 female workers. The employees have claimed that, under a government decision, the pension is partial. In this context they are demanding to work and be paid. A commission has been set up, made up of the striking workers, the factory management, the Deputy Minister of Industry and the area’s deputy, who will discuss all the strikers’ demands. The employees of the Durrës cigarette factory, which currently has only 54 tons of tobacco, believe that modernizing this factory and privatizing it as soon as possible could save it from bankruptcy. For a year and more, the governing of our country by a handful of people has been not only incapable of carrying out the process of state administration, but also incapable of leading the country through its democratic processes. This is not only because of membership, but also because of the use of power and the law by the parliamentary majority and the government to cover up or distort unlawful actions. These actions are clearly seen by public opinion and are presented daily in the press. A multitude of facts speak of abuses, favoritism and questionable ties. Mr. Roko Cafe (Continued on page 4)

Democratic Party — the most successful, Democratic Government — the most effective

Democratic Party — the most successful, Democratic Government — the most effective The country — for a new, lower status For weeks the staff of Agriculture and Food has been trying urgently to stage an exhibition on the theme of the election campaign. Clearly visible are slogans and statements that try to present the government’s successes. But the real situation in the countryside and in the markets shows the opposite.
