PD DEPUTY VASIL GJIKA WILL BECOME AN INDEPENDENT DEPUTY

Instead of a reply to the newspaper Kond Jone Instead of a reply to the newspaper «Kond Jone» From the conversation that Mr. Vasil Gjika, a deputy of the PD parliamentary group, gave especially for our newspaper, we extract these passages: After seeing the contradictory arguments and the absurdity of the distortion of politics in Albania, Mr. Vasil Gjika is convinced that radical changes must be made in Albanian politics. He believes that the only force of hope, stability, and balance in the country is the current opposition, represented by the Socialist Party. Referring to the parliamentary and political activity of recent months, he says that the time has come for a clear distinction between those who seek the rule of law, dialogue, and civility, and those who sow conflict, revenge, and arbitrariness. For this reason he believes that a deputy must be free to answer to the electorate and to his own conscience. Within this framework, Mr. Vasil Gjika declares that he will become an independent deputy. He stresses that his position does not stem from personal interests, but from the conviction that the country needs another political path, far from extremism and anti-democratic practices. He emphasizes that the voice of the opposition cannot be silenced by pressure, slander, or verbal and physical violence. In the continuation of the conversation he also addresses issues related to the responsibility of the majority, the climate of insecurity, and the role of the press in distorting the truth. Cases of misuse, lack of transparency, and unclear institutional responsibility were identified. Opposition deputies have demanded that control not be used for political selection, but for the reestablishment of legality. The discussions also focused on relations between the executive and the control bodies, as well as on the need for independence of state institutions. (continued on page 4)

THE NEW BEY WITH A BLUE CARD

It is about the long essay titled with a long and strange name. But what is it about? About the phenomenon of rapid enrichment, about ties to power, and about the way the new beys are being created in the conditions of transition. The text mocks people who have built economic and political power through favors, party connections, and clientelist administration. The author notes that the blue card has become a symbol of privilege and arbitrariness, while the ordinary citizen remains faced with poverty, injustice, and insecurity. At the end, the question is raised whether this is the model of democracy that was promised to Albanians. KOSO DEVOLLI
