Your informative support in Kosovo against isolation

It took the Serbs years to perfect their mechanism of violence against Albanians in Kosovo; nevertheless, in the period from 1989 onward they have succeeded in carrying out with almost total success their plan to isolate the Albanians of Kosovo completely from the civilized world. The world has sporadic information about the situation in Kosovo more from the foreign press than from Kosovar sources, since there is still no public-information medium operating there in the Albanian language. As a result, the world has begun to grow tired of hearing only about murders and Serbian police violence against Albanians, but not the causes of these incidents, which are linked to the other economic, social and political problems that so greatly worry the Albanians of Kosovo. These are the topics developed at the round table, directly organized by the Council for the Protection of Human Rights and Freedoms based in Prishtina, during which, these days, KMDLNJ presented its actions in this direction and concrete proposals for the Albanian diaspora in Western countries. Dr. Adnan Merovci and Dr. Ibrahim Rugova briefly outlined in the introduction the history of the Albanian-Serbian conflict in Kosovo. Then the head of the Kosovo government in exile, Dr. Bujar Bukoshi, presented with figures and facts the catastrophic consequences of the dismissal of Albanians from work. Also speaking at the meeting were Dr. Fehmi Agani, the TV journalist independent from Belgrade, Marina Blagović, and representatives of KMDLNJ. During these discussions, the need emerged for greater cooperation between Albanians and independent institutions and non-governmental organizations in order to keep the international public continuously informed about the true situation in Kosovo.

According to the organizers, around 6,000 citizens took part. The opening speech was delivered by the chairman of FPSH for the city of Gramsh, Mr. Sokol Pëllumbi, who denounced the activity of the anti-popular and anti-national government, especially the recruitment of Albanian boys by the structures of the criminal police and military depots to serve as mercenaries against Albanians in Kosovo and Macedonia. The participants in the rally also protested against violations of the rights of the opposition, the dismissal of Albanians from public administration, and the exploitative and discriminatory fiscal policy toward Albanian private enterprise. Representatives of the Front also denounced at this rally Meksi's relative, MP Mr. Servet Pëllumbi, as a man who is remaining silent in the face of these phenomena. At the end, the rally sent protest telegrams to the mission of the European Conference and the CSCE in Tirana, the American Embassy in Tirana, the human-rights commission in Geneva, the United Nations, the Council of Europe, the Islamic Conference, and the leaders of the opposition parties in Albania. The telegram states that "the actions of Gazidede, using the forces of the Republican Guard, SHIK and the criminal police to burn the south of the country and to kill political opponents and Albanians from Kosovo and Macedonia, constitute a great danger for the Albanian people. They are a continuation of the Serbo-Greek policy for destabilizing Albania."

Gjirokastër Now, some work units receive orders only according to the parameters and conditions set by the district party committees. Such is also the case with the forestry district enterprise. Although its units had long been stabilized, now the scissors of the leaders have begun to fall especially on the qualified specialists. Most of them, even those who have brought the enterprise good profits, are starting to be dismissed with the justification that "you are not with us". The forestry specialists feel threatened and state that they have nowhere to go. They are asking the competent bodies to intervene to stop this climate of political revenge. THANAS BINO
