NO HALL FITS THE SOCIALISTS NOW

- Yesterday the "Asllan Rusi" Sports Palace resounded with cheers for the Socialist Party, Fatos Nano, real democracy, against political violence and the violation of human rights - Outside the Sports Palace, with large deployments of police forces, it was a lesson better than anything else that we all brought to the people. HEADLINE Chairman of the Tirana branch of the Socialist Party, Mr. Agim Bendo With the success of the PSSH delegation with the delegation of the Socialist and Social Democratic parties of other parties in Europe Zëri i Popullit, 2 March 1994, p. 1 The chairman of the PS of the Tirana district was the first to greet those present with the words: “Welcome to this magnificent rally in honor of the Socialist Party of Albania, of its chairman, Fatos Nano, unjustly imprisoned, and of our demand for the triumph of true democracy.” Further on in his speech, Mr. Agim Bendo emphasized that this rally was an expression of broad support for the PSSH and its chairman, and of civic outrage at the political violence and injustices that are being carried out. The hall burst into continuous cheers for Fatos Nano and the Socialist Party. NANO must be free, he must be among us. Now the future of the PS and of true democracy are inseparable. Our people no longer accept arbitrariness and the trampling of fundamental human rights. The hall was packed to the brim. Thousands of citizens stood outside because they could no longer get inside. This extraordinary participation was proof of great confidence in the Socialist Party and in its political path. At this meeting, the need for the unification of progressive forces, respect for political freedoms, and a fairer, more democratic Albania was also discussed. (text partially illegible in image)

The imprisonment of Fatos Nano awakened the conscience of thousands of people in the face of neo-democratic injustices

DECLARATION OF THE PS PARLIAMENTARY GROUP This declaration was held at the Kavaja rally, but for technical reasons it was not read. In the absence of our unjustly imprisoned chairman, Fatos Nano, the parliamentary group of the Socialist Party once again denounces the climate of political violence, blackmail and obstruction of the opposition. The unjust imprisonment of Mr. Nano is a symbol of this degradation. It has awakened the conscience of thousands of people, who today are rising up against injustice, against the abuse of power and against attempts to intimidate citizens. We call on all democratic forces in the country to unite in defense of political freedoms and human rights. (Continues on page 4)
