THE PEOPLE OF ZALL-HERR CAST THEIR VOTE FOR THE SOCIALIST PARTY
- Out of 2,340 inhabitants (excluding 848 soldiers), 1,265 voted for the PS
- Compared with the elections of 26 July 1992, in the commune of Zall-Herr the PS received 420 votes, 42.5 percent more than its previous electorate
- The previous balance was overturned, and while the PS received 215 votes, the PD got 1,768 votes in total, meaning 41 percent of its votes went to the socialists
JUAN MADANI states:
Yesterday, as a guest on the morning program on TVSH, Dr. Servet Pëllumbi categorically stated that in the partial elections in the commune of Zall-Herr, the Socialist Party had emerged as the winner. He supported this view with several figures and relevant arguments. Reacting to the statement by Mr. Pjetër Arbnori, who, according to the course of the day, was trying to distort the truth, Dr. Pëllumbi pointed out that during the elections held on 5 June, for 26 polling stations, a total of 2,340 people voted. Of these, 1,265 cast their vote for the Socialist Party, 859 for the Democratic Party, 69 for the PBDNJ, 56 for the PR, 27 for the PSD, and 64 votes were declared invalid. This means that the PS received 54.2 percent of the vote, while the PD received 36.7 percent. If Mr. Arbnori adds the votes of his allies, the ratio rises to 39.2 percent for the right wing, so the PS still remains the winner.
Dr. Servet Pëllumbi also drew arguments from the elections of 22 March 1992, when 1,686 people voted in the commune of Zall-Herr and 420 voted for the PS. Compared with that figure, it turns out that this time, on 5 June 1994, the PS received 845 more votes, meaning it tripled its electorate. Whereas in 1992, the PD with its allies received 1,768 votes, now it has fallen to 915 votes. Under these circumstances it is clear that the former balance has been reversed.
On the other hand, Dr. Pëllumbi emphasized, if we take into account the fact that 848 soldiers did not vote, then it follows that the civilian population of the commune of Zall-Herr, with its vote, has given strong support to the Socialist Party.
In conclusion, he stressed that the socialists have won politically and morally and that the statements of their opponents cannot change this fact.

The principles, challenges and alternatives of Albania's economic reform, the challenges faced by Albanian democracy in its advance toward the consolidation of democratic relations and the market economy, were at the center of yesterday's meeting of the Secretary General of the Socialist Party of Albania, Dr. Servet Pëllumbi, with Mr. Peter M. Nicholas, vice president of the American Foreign Policy Council and professor at Georgetown University, and Mr. Charles Fairbanks, senior coordinator at the U.S. Institute of Peace.
Assessing the PS as the main force of the democratic opposition and as a force with broad prospects for affirming political stability in Albania, the American interlocutors emphasized that democratic developments in our country need better institutional cooperation among political forces.

.
