RTSH under the terror of dossiers

The latest debates in the presidium and the board of directors of Albanian Radio and Television have turned into an unusual forum for solving the problem of the so-called “dossiers.” Instead of being addressed with legal calm and institutional sensitivity, the issue has become a tool of pressure, stigmatization and exclusion.
In this climate, many journalists and employees have been placed under moral and administrative terror, while RTSH’s very public mission risks being distorted. The dossiers law, as it is being applied, is not serving transparency, but division and intimidation.

Great unpredictability and preconditions for a normal democracy. Albania is not a country for a legal press, regardless of titles and slogans. The fundamental precondition remains the degree of respect for freedoms and human rights. ECOSY is aware of the importance of this issue in Albania and is following the situation closely, expressing its concern and solidarity with the Albanian socialists and with their chairman, Mr. Fatos Nano.

The assembly of European socialist and social democratic youth, ECOSY, believes that the progress of democratic reforms in Albania cannot be separated from the resolution of the Nano case and from respect for the political rights of the opposition. In this context, representatives of this organization state that there can be no real integration into European structures without a normal political climate in the country.
