He was asked why his government was doing nothing to save the 30 June deadline, which the prime minister himself had set as the final deadline for placing the constitution before parliament. Mëkësi replied that, "the fault on the part of the Albanian government is due to the dispute that the PS is making over the approval of the constitution in parliament." That is half the truth. The other side is linked to the fact that the constitutional project has been completed so late mainly because of the dragging on and the lack of readiness of the parliamentary majority to compromise with the opposition.
