SOCIALIST LEADER FATOS NANO CHALLENGES THE POLITICS OF DEHUMANIZING PEOPLE

Prison and internment are the policy of the present regime to put the philosophy of dehumanizing people to death in life. - The misuse of [?] against human rights is heard easily as nothing more than a monument of culture misused by the Berisha regime. Socialist opposition figures have become the only unchanging factor in post-communist Albanian politics. As such, the chairman of the Socialist Party, Mr. Fatos Nano, has been at the center of attention for both the national and foreign media. He has been asked how much he is affected by the time he is spending in prison and what he thinks about the country's future. Fatos Nano says that he faces it with the calm of someone who must come into the light and with the conviction that freedom cannot be locked away for long. In many of the questions, the socialist leader has repeated that his imprisonment is a political act, an attempt to intimidate the opposition and divide society into the obedient and the unwelcome. He has regarded this as a continuation of old methods, of a culture of punishment, internment and isolation, which runs counter to democratic standards and human rights. In his view, the use of state institutions to strike at a political opponent cannot create a democratic order. He has stressed that a regime that sustains itself on people's fear does not build a state, but weakens trust in the law and in the future. In this sense, prisons and internments are symptoms of a policy that seeks to dehumanize the person. He has also stated that monuments of culture, history and the national memory should not be misused as propaganda stages or symbolic places for humiliating the opponent. A democratic society cannot use culture against the human being; rather, it must place it in the service of his dignity and freedom.

On Thursday a strike by several newspapers against economic censorship of the press begins

In protest against the increase in the circulation tax on daily newspapers, which will severely affect periodical newspapers and the Albanian press in general, the editorial offices of the newspapers "Koha Jonë", "Dita Informacion", "Flamuri", "Aleanca", "E Djathta", "Republika", "Lajmi", "Atema" [?], "Ekonomi" decided not to go on sale on Thursday. The decision was taken after a joint consultation of the leaders of these publications, who describe the tax increase as a discriminatory and damaging measure for free speech. According to them, this tax weighs on independent publishers and favors economic control over the press. Representatives of the newspapers are calling for the immediate review of the decision and warn that the protest may escalate if their demands are not taken into account.

DEMOCRATIC SOCIETY - STILL NOT SATISFIED WITH FATOS NANO

The drive for revenge against Fatos Nano has no end. Every day and every week new forms of pressure, new accusations and new forms of isolation are invented. This spirit, presented as state zeal, is in fact fed by a political culture that seeks to keep its opponent imprisoned even symbolically. This way of acting is not simply a matter of legal procedure; it is a sign of a poor political morality and of a deep fear of different thinking. Instead of debate and political competition, the instrument chosen is personal attack. Supporters of freedom and pluralism see this as an indicator of the weakness of power, not its strength. As the shadow of an endless process against Fatos Nano lengthens, the conviction grows that democracy is not built on political prisons, but on respect for the opponent and on equal law for all.

Does Zef Brozi know nothing?

Zef Brozi, president of the Court of Cassation... There is a kind of cooling in relations between institutions that is noticeable whenever the Fatos Nano case is mentioned. Some public statements, some evasions of answers and some prolonged silences create the impression that responsibility is being distributed in an unclear way. The question raised in this article is whether the highest institutions of justice are truly uninformed, or whether they prefer not to speak on a politically sensitive issue. This silence, according to the author, helps neither transparency nor public trust. When justice leaves room for ambiguity, suspicion grows that decisions are not taken solely on the basis of law. For this reason, public clarification and institutional accountability are demanded.
