WHO IS TRAMPLING ON THE IDEALS OF DEMOCRACY BY CRUSHING THE FORMER POLITICAL PERSECUTEES
The hunger strike as a form of psychological pressure,
a continuous development, 55 days of resistance.
On the 55th day of the hunger strike, according to the daily chronicle, the number of strikers remains 70. Their health condition is reported to be worsening and, according to doctors' statements, the danger to life is growing greater every day. In the strike area, family members, representatives of the association and citizens concerned about its fate continue to remain.
The stance of the state authorities toward this event, as has already been emphasized before, continues to be marked by the lack of direct dialogue and of a political solution. The demands of the politically persecuted have been public for a long time and are related to compensation, legal recognition and moral rehabilitation.
In statements by their representatives it is said that the protest is not party-political in nature, but an appeal to the state to fulfill its obligations. They state that they are not asking for privileges, but for justice and equal treatment with other citizens who have suffered from earlier repression.
Public concern about the consequences of this prolonged situation is growing, while family members are calling for immediate intervention to prevent further deterioration. In the absence of a concrete response, the hunger strike continues and tensions remain high.
