During Friday evening in our country 75 new cases of the disease were also recorded. In the last 48 hours there have been 100 sick people. The total number of cases has reached 385, while 8 people have died. Shkodra, with 207 cases, has the highest number of patients. The disease has spread through this city and the surrounding villages. The hospitals of Shkodra, Tirana, Durrës and Lezha have been placed on alert. Last night measures were taken to isolate the sick and disinfect the affected areas. Residents were advised to boil water and avoid unsafe food. However, the lack of information and the slow response of state institutions has increased panic among the population.
In many areas, basic medicines and means for treating the infected are lacking. Doctors are calling for urgent supplies of serum, antibiotics and disinfectant materials. In some villages the use of well water has been temporarily suspended. Local authorities say they are working to halt the spread of the epidemic, but the rate of new cases remains alarming.
