The figures published by the Socialist Party were real. The PD statement gives distorted data in order to manipulate the vote. At last the PD, albeit late, admitted defeat. Only 41.7 percent of voters said “Yes”. The people had the chance to get to know well the face and the reason that stands above them.
It seems that the entire maneuver by the Presidium and the apparatus of the People's Assembly to hide the result of the vote at first and present it as a victory failed. This was not only because the ballots cast could not be changed, but also because the Albanian people clearly felt that this was a shameful manipulation. In the PD statement distributed last night, distorted figures are given in order to create the idea of a victory for it. But that does not hold.
The data published by the Socialist Party are real. They faithfully reflect the will of Albanian citizens expressed in the referendum. The people showed that they are not ready to blindly accept constitutional adventures and authoritarian projects. The referendum brought to light a great political truth: the country is seeking new alternatives.
Yesterday’s vote proved that the majority of Albanians did not support the draft constitution. This is a political blow to the current power and to all those who considered this vote a personal plebiscite. Instead of reflecting, official propaganda tried to distort reality. However, the facts remain stubborn.
With their vote, citizens gave a clear lesson to the arrogance of power. They showed that they demand change, genuine dialogue, democratic institutions, and a constitutional order that stems from consensus, not imposition. Albania cannot move forward on the basis of deception.
Today, after this result, it is even more evident that the country needs new political alternatives, a new spirit of responsibility, and a strong opposition to defend the interests of citizens. This is the message of the referendum.

- We hope that the Presidium will draw a lesson, Polloi Aleksandër Meksi Langër stated to the press in the European Parliament
Mr. Aleksandër Meksi, one of the leaders of the Democratic Party, stated yesterday to the press that the result of the referendum should be viewed realistically and without distorting the will of the people. He said that Albania needs the start of a legal fight [?] and the strengthening of democratic institutions. According to him, after this vote, the government must reflect and open the way for dialogue with the opposition.
In another comment, he stressed that the majority of citizens did not support the constitutional project and that this is a clear sign of dissatisfaction with the way the country is being governed. He added that Europe expects more political responsibility from Albania and respect for democratic standards.
