We want concrete action from the government to normalize and strengthen relations with neighboring countries The expanded gathering of socialists in Sarandë, with the participation of the chairman of the PS, Servet Pëllumbi, concluded the week’s activity against the anti-popular draft constitution. The activists strongly opposed the authorities’ efforts to split the people and artificially divide them into north and south. No one and nothing can deceive or distort the will of the overwhelming majority of the people of Albania. This was best demonstrated by the large turnout at the rally organized yesterday in Sarandë, where representatives from all the villages of the district also took part. The accusations made against the socialist opposition, and especially the Socialist Party, of inciting a civil war with the poorest and most impoverished strata of the country are absurd and ridiculous. This was stated by Servet Pëllumbi at the meeting with the electorate of Sarandë. He said that poverty truly exists and can be seen with the naked eye. Its roots lie in this incompetent government and in this backward policy, which has always pursued a line of denigration and trampling on the socialist opposition. The main responsibility of government institutions is to take measures to alleviate it, to create as many jobs as possible, and not to drive from work those who supported their families with the sweat of their brow. Addressing the socialists of Sarandë, Mr. Pëllumbi said that the opposition is now determined in its political action to confront this regime resolutely, doing everything possible to prevent the situation from deteriorating. In this context, he made it clear to the people that the PS does not follow and will never follow the path of violence; on the contrary, it will contribute in every case to understanding and calm among people, so that as little room as possible is left for violence and conflict. After greeting the measured and responsible stance of the electorate of Sarandë in dealing with the political provocations that have been made in recent days, Mr. Pëllumbi stressed that the Socialist Party will fight to the end against the attempts of the government and other extremist forces to divide the people into “south and north,” calling those attempts malicious and harmful to Albania’s future. He called for the involvement of all Albanians on the path of national unity and overcoming the difficult economic and political situation. Further, Mr. Pëllumbi said that governance must change, because the majority of Albanians have lost hope in the current administration. Speaking about the repeated invitations for coalitions coming from those in power, Mr. Pëllumbi said that the people expect a change of government and not statements about imaginary coalitions that have no connection with reality. Albania needs responsibility, stability, and institutions that work for the citizen.
