THE NATIONAL LIBERATION ANTI-FASCIST WAR - THE GLORIOUS EPIC OF THE ALBANIAN PEOPLE (Greeting by Dr. Server Pëllumbi at the 50th anniversary jubilee conference, 29 November 1994) Dr. Server Pëllumbi, on behalf of the Presidency of the Socialist Party of Albania and in my personal name, I cordially greet you and extend my best wishes to all participants in this jubilee conference marking the 50th anniversary of the day of the liberation of the Homeland. 29 November, for us Albanians, has been and remains one of the most important and most outstanding dates in our national history. This day crowned four and a half years of heroic struggle, when, with rifle in hand, our people rose up against the Nazi-fascist occupiers and the traitors of the country, winning freedom through their own blood and sacrifices. The National Liberation Anti-Fascist War was a glorious epic of the Albanian people. It brilliantly demonstrated the highest patriotic virtues, courage, sacrifice, and the freedom-loving spirit of our people. In this war, national unity was forged and affirmed, and the strength of the people and of the ideal of freedom was tested. Albania emerged from the war with honor, on the side of the world anti-fascist coalition. The Albanian people, through their National Liberation War, stood alongside other freedom-loving peoples and made their contribution to the victory over fascism. Today, on the 50th anniversary of liberation, we honor with respect the martyrs, veterans, partisans, and all those who fought and sacrificed for freedom. We remember with piety the victims of the war and fascist terror, as well as the entire contribution of the Albanian people to this epic. This date reminds us that freedom and independence are not a gift, but a victory that demands sacrifice. It calls on us to preserve and develop the best values of this war: the spirit of unity, democracy, and national progress. In today’s conditions, the commemoration of 29 November takes on a special meaning. It encourages us to work for the strengthening of the democratic state, for social reconciliation, and for the building of a modern, just, and European Albania. Eternal glory to the martyrs of the Homeland! Honor to the veterans of the National Liberation Anti-Fascist War! This decision comes after positive assessments of economic and political developments in the country. The announcement states that the EU has established the fulfillment of a series of conditions related to macroeconomic stability, progress in reforms, and respect for political commitments. This amount is expected to help balance the country’s financial needs and support the continuation of reforms.
