AN IMPORTANT EVENT IN THE LIFE OF THE SOCIALIST PARTY
PS PROGRAMME AREAS Interview with the deputy chairman of the Socialist Party, Dr. Servet Pëllumbi, given to editor Hadi Hupë
In recent days the new PSSH Programme was published. What are its most important values? What place does it give to the reflection of Albania’s current crisis and its solution? The new PSSH Programme occupies an important place in the party’s activity. This is determined not only by the intense political, economic and social developments the country is going through, but also by the need to refine the party’s programmatic positions in the new conditions. The new Programme seeks to provide more complete answers to the challenges Albania faces in this period of transition. It reflects today’s Albanian crisis, its causes, the ways to overcome it, and the main directions for building a democratic, just and developed society. The Programme emphasizes that the country is experiencing not only economic difficulties, but also a deep social, moral and institutional crisis. This crisis requires a clear political vision and a serious alternative. In this sense, the PSSH Programme represents a new platform for action and political responsibility. It aims to strengthen the rule of law, guarantee human rights and freedoms, promote a social-market economy and defend national interests. The Programme sets out the need for profound reforms in administration, justice, education, culture and in the country’s economic life. It gives special importance to vulnerable groups, the unemployed, pensioners and young people, calling for special social policies. On the political level, the Programme calls for the expansion of democracy, inter-party dialogue and cooperation on major national issues. It sees European integration as a strategic goal for Albania and stresses the necessity of good relations with neighbors and international partners. Turning to the internal life of the party, the Programme aims to make the PSSH more open, more democratic, closer to the citizen and better able to face the challenges of the time. It seeks a modern left-wing party, with a culture of dialogue, responsibility and a European vision.
