Study of pensions and protest

FROM DAY TO DAY... STUDIES ON PENSIONS AND PROTEST - The lack of divs and water, as well as the long queues for bread, provoke enough protest ... in silence, through people’s discomfort and the clarity of their concerns. This is how many citizens express in just a few words their worry about daily bread, the lack of water and electricity, low pensions, and the rising cost of living. Many of them link this to the government’s inability to find solutions and to the lack of responsibility of the institutions. These concerns, which at first glance seem scattered, are turning into a permanent state of dissatisfaction. People complain in queues, in the streets, at workplaces, and also at home. Their voice grows louder every time the lack of basic services affects daily life. Pensioners, low-income families, and workers are the hardest hit. In some areas citizens say that bread is supplied with difficulty, while electricity is cut off frequently. Water is missing for hours at a time, and this causes fatigue and dissatisfaction. These accumulated problems create a heavy social climate that, according to observers, could surface in the form of protest. In this sense, the issue of pensions is seen as a sensitive point, because it affects a broad layer of people living on the edge of survival.

Decisive victory for the Bulgarian socialists

- 20 percent more votes than the Union of Democratic Forces - The first results show that the Bulgarian socialists have won decisively over their political opponents. The margin of about 20 percent of the vote over the Union of Democratic Forces represents a clear success in the latest elections. Observers link this result to popular dissatisfaction with the reforms carried out so far and to the desire for a different political direction. The victory is expected to affect the composition of the new government and the country’s economic and social course. At the main polling stations, turnout was considered significant, while rival parties made cautious statements about the progress of the process.
