FATOS NANO IS INNOCENT
SALI BERISHA SHOULD HAVE
THE COURAGE TO ADMIT THIS
- Because this would also do Albania good
as a ruling country at the end of the 20th century
- Because this would show the world that we know how to live together
Some of the deputies in the current Albanian parliament have once again raised the idea of creating a republic. This may also be an invention of the new Albanian political scene. For the moment, its leadership is still not clear. It is highly likely that even the President of the Republic himself, Sali Berisha, is part of this new political scene that is taking shape. The goal may be a cleansing of the political environment from what can now be called the Nano file. If this is true, then he must have the courage and maturity to publicly admit that Fatos Nano is innocent.
If this does not happen, Albania will remain under the shadow of a serious political and moral injustice. A state that imprisons a political opponent without evidence cannot claim that it is building democracy. This issue is not only about one individual, but about the standard of the state and the country’s face before the world.
Today Albania needs more than ever political coexistence, acceptance of differing views, and a return to the rule of law. Recognizing Fatos Nano’s innocence would be not only a human step, but also a politically wise one, because it would show the Albanian citizen and international opinion that our country is capable of overcoming revenge and opening a new page.
This would be a service to democracy, to the state, and to Albania’s future.
“The Nano issue”: one that will determine Albania’s fate in international institutions
“THE NANO ISSUE”: One that will
determine Albania’s fate in
international institutions
It is widely known in the highest circles of parliament that have assessed the decision against Fatos Nano as a test of the political maturity of the Albanian state. No. On the contrary, this is a matter that will heavily influence the way Albania is seen by Europe and by international institutions. No one can ask for integration and respect while keeping the main political opponent in prison through a disputed trial.
In Western chancelleries this issue has already become a symbol of the way opposition is treated in Albania. Therefore, any solution to it will carry much greater weight than an ordinary domestic political conflict. It will affect the credibility of the Albanian state and the reliability of its institutions.
Banca: the Albanian ‘Bashia’ of political fishing
Banca: the Albanian ‘Bashia’ of
political fishing
Depending on the social environment for politics, governance has sparked no small amount of tension. Analogies can be seen with the old mechanisms of propaganda, where institutions or enterprises are used as a battlefield for political struggle. In this sense, the use of the bank and the financial system as part of a political confrontation is not only dangerous, but also harmful to the ordinary citizen.
Instead of the state guaranteeing stability, it often turns into a party to the conflict. This creates insecurity, fear, and distrust. Fishing politically in muddy waters has become one of the most common ways of governing, while the cost is borne by society.

A letter to the editorial office from Mati
In the villages of the Mati area, dozens of families are living in harsh conditions. Housing problems, lack of economic assistance, and unemployment have created a dramatic situation, in which 50 families remain at the mercy of fate. Residents are calling for immediate intervention by local authorities and state bodies.
They stress that promises have been repeated, but nothing has changed. Winter makes their lives even harder, while children and the elderly are the most affected.

Old in years, but young at heart
Old in years, but
young at heart
From the report on the veterans of Dibra
The article brings impressions from meetings with the veterans, who, although advanced in age, retain spiritual vitality and a love of life. In their conversations, memories return from the war, from the difficult years, and from the efforts to build the country. But above all, there emerges a strong sense of dignity and an optimism that never fades.
They speak of the past not as a burden, but as an experience that should serve the younger generations. Their message is clear: age does not make the soul old when a person preserves ideals and the desire to be useful.
