Zef Brozi challenges Sali Berisha
Calls for a live television debate
In the letter Brozi sends to Berisha, he denounces pressure, surveillance, and telephone tapping
The law and justice are on Brozi’s side
The path taken by the President of the Court of Cassation, Mr. Zef Brozi, is original in the face of the recent attacks by political power, which seeks by every means to paralyze and bring under its umbrella this very important segment of judicial power. While today Mr. Brozi has prevailed in the court he heads over all the citizens interested in the accusations made against him, he is at the same time directly challenging the President and the other heads of power with the televised “duel” he proposed, even before Berisha’s departure for the USA.
The path chosen by Mr. Brozi is not only a sign of emancipation, but also an expression of confidence and independence on the part of a high-ranking judicial official. This example is an encouraging and inspiring act for all employees of the state apparatus, down to the most ordinary official, so that in his work he recognizes no hierarchy other than the law.

Here is the text of the letter
President of the Republic
Mr. Sali Berisha
Vice President
Bearing in mind the constitutional proposal of the President as guarantor of respect for the constitution:
In the name of the peace and goodwill that Albania needs today;
I request
1. That the anti-constitutional war against the judiciary be ended and the independence of the courts be truly respected.
2. That the violation of the right granted to me by the constitutional law to the secrecy of correspondence be brought to an end. That the tapping of my telephone at home and in the office, the obstruction of telephone communication, etc., and other unlawful forms of surveillance carried out by certain state mechanisms be stopped and never repeated.
3. In order to give the people an opportunity to judge the views of the President, the President of the Court of Cassation, the Prime Minister, and the Speaker of the People’s Assembly, I invite YOU, Mr. Meksi and Mr. Arbnori, to hold a televised debate before your departure for the USA.
The topic of the debate is “The separation of powers in Albania and how the present conflicts between them can be resolved.”
4. In order to obtain the people’s assessment of my personality, please announce a referendum. If its result is unfavorable to me, I would resign immediately
Sincerely
ZEF BROZI
