On the eve of the third trial in Cassation

Fatos Nano: We will not take part in the next farce "Now, my comrades and I will concentrate all our efforts on taking power from Berisha through elections, so that justice and everything else held under his boot in Albania may finally be freed, along with the breath of democracy and the future." Issue of the day

What are the reserves of grain and flour for bread? Various sources report that the country's reserves of grain and bread flour, without any concern for shortages, are enough to cover the country's needs until the next harvest season. On the other hand, Albanian businessmen involved in importing flour and grain speak of major difficulties currently encountered in finding these goods in foreign markets in our region. According to them, this situation on the grain markets has been created by this year's poor harvests in some countries known for grain production. This situation has led some analysts to say that the President of the Republic's recent decree abolishing customs duties on grain and bread flour is dictated precisely by this critical situation and by the country's grain and flour reserves. This decree runs counter to the Parliament's law on raising customs duties, which entered into force on 1 July this year for agricultural and livestock products. That law aimed to protect and stimulate domestic agricultural and livestock production against the influx of food products from abroad. The President's decree does the opposite. It reduces to zero the interest of Albanian farmers in grain production for bread, an interest severely shaken by competition from imported grain. It is known that a major reason led the President of the Republic to take such a step by decreeing the removal of customs duties on wheat and flour. The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Economy postponed a few days ago the submission of the President's decree for approval in Parliament, asking for clarification in detail regarding this decree. At the beginning of next week, the relevant specialists are expected to provide explanations and requests on this issue. On this occasion, it is appropriate for the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Economy, (why not Parliament as well) to ask that the following issues be clarified: 1. What is the actual situation of bread grain in the country, and what measures is the Government taking to ensure its full supply until next year's harvest? 2. Is the current situation of bread reserves in the country the result of an extraordinary situation in the region, or the result of mistaken economic policy concerning the production of bread grain in the country? 3. Why have the efforts so far to bring wheat from Romania produced no results? 4. Are there sufficient financial and foreign-currency reserves for purchasing grain from abroad, or will these be covered by international financial institutions? 5. If the price of grain on foreign markets is higher than it has been so far, will the Government subsidize the price of bread, or will there be a new increase in its price? 6. If the Government subsidizes the new price of the grain it will buy abroad, will this discourage private traders who are forced to sell imported wheat and flour at the foreign market price? Clarification of these issues in Parliament would intensify measures to ensure the timely supply of grain and flour on the eve of the winter that is knocking at the door.

Meksit Azem Hajdari

Who is Azem Hajdari?

-Kurt's soldier, the soldier of shame In the process of progressive depersonalization, of the enslavement of soldiers, the poor deputy Hajdari ended up in the service of Kurt Kola, or as his last soldier. Yesterday at dawn, after calling the security forces, it is said that the "brave man" Hajdari, in a Don Quixote-like act, decided to kill himself. In one hand he held the revolver, which is said to have been loaded with blank cartridges, and in the other the bottle of gasoline, which, according to some, resembled a bottle of rakia. (RD 13 August 1994) Why did Deputy Hajdari not react when RD of 12 August 1994 said about him that he had gone on a hunger strike to carry out "a cleansing protest from some past sins"? If he had been ill, surely to defend the honor and dignity trampled by an accusation he would have reacted. But he said nothing. Why was he silent? What was he hiding in his past? And when the past is mentioned, is it the distant past, for example that of the years 1982-1984, or the recent past, for example the year 1991, the month of April, the date 2, being in Shkodër, night journeys, etc.? Because I am not thinking that when RD speaks of sins from the past, it means, for example, the complaints about gifts made by some former State Security officer, or the overcoat on credit (white in color), no, surely it refers to cleansing from other sins, those that RD knows better. Kurt Kola Bashkim Emiri Shkodër

Selected from RD of 10 November 1995

Question: Mr. Bashkim, is it true that 34,000 families were without electricity last night, as "ZP" writes? Answer: Yes, 34,000 families are half of Tirana. The figures can be given as journalists wish, while we have full information about the network in Tirana I can tell you that only three feeders had problems. Lapraka, the area of Bardhyl Street that was stabilized yesterday, and these make up 10,000 families, add to that the families where the electricity is temporarily shut off Question: Mr. Bashkim, is it true that 34,000 families were without electricity last night, as "ZP" writes? Answer: Yes, 34,000 families are half of Tirana. The figures can be given as journalists wish, while we have full information about the network in Tirana I can tell you that only three feeders had problems. Lapraka, the area of Bardhyl Street that was stabilized yesterday, and these make up 10,000 families, add to that the families where the electricity is temporarily shut off A brief comment: As can be seen from the above statement by Mr. Bashkim Emiri, director of the Tirana electricity branch, RD is trying to paint black as white and put out eyes. He speaks of 10,000 families without lighting and of defects in Lapraka and the area of Bardhyl Street. But he goes on to say and those families where electricity is temporarily shut off, without giving a figure, solely so that the number published in "Zeri i Popullit" will not come out. But do the lies of Bashkimi and RD spare the residents of Tirana, in Kombinat, near the bus park opposite the "Enver" factory, at the "Dinamo" stadium, the former "Enver" factory, in Kinostudio, Qytet Studenti, the Ali Demi neighborhood, etc.? Do they solve the problem of lighting with electric power? Let RD continue to "refute" "Zeri i Popullit" since the residents of the capital know how to distinguish who lies and who tells the truth.
