The White House congratulates Kvasnjevski on his victory

- Clinton: It was truly democratic. Washington is not concerned about Kvasnjevski’s communist past, given that he was a minister in the last two communist cabinets. It is interested only in close ties with a democratic Poland The White House on Monday congratulated Aleksander Kvasnjevski on his election as Poland’s next president, setting aside the politician’s communist past, saying it is interested only in his future policies. White House Press Secretary Mike McCurry said Washington is not concerned by the fact that Kvasnjevski was a member of the Communist Party for 13 years and served as minister in two communist cabinets. Meanwhile, a U.S. State Department spokesman, Glyn Davies, added that America is itself interested in close ties with a democratic Poland, while non-communist leaders were elected[?]. “We note that the campaign was harsh, but it was open and fair.”

Meksi refutes Berisha

The supporters of the so-called genocide do the least they can with their position by accepting Ranković’s chauvinist thesis, who many years ago, when Sali Berisha was only 16, accused Albania of genocide with the devilish aim of hiding the real genocide he was carrying out against the Albanians of Kosovo. Unable to analyze the past realistically and uncover the essence of the crimes of the class struggle, the current rulers invent legal needles, solely in order to stay in power. However, the return of the democratic left to power is a phenomenon, and as such it cannot be avoided in Albania either. All the more so with absurd and regressive laws whose essence is not to correct an injustice, but to create a new injustice, division and confrontation among Albanians. Read on page 2

The head of the PS parliamentary group, Namik Dokle, meets with the ambassador of Norway

Yesterday, at the seat of the People’s Assembly, the head of the PS parliamentary group, Namik Dokle, received the ambassador of Norway, Mr. Jon A. Caarder, at the latter’s request. Mr. Caarder was interested in political developments in Albania and the socialists’ views on them. "We see the situation from two angles," said N. Dokle. "In solidarity, we ask that life began with difficulties. Political pluralism, freedom of movement and belief, the pluralist press, etc., are achievements of democracy. But on the other hand, we also compare developments with European standards of democracy. And in this case we have criticism of the serious reforms that have been made to democracy in Albania and are still being made. There is a free press, but there are also journalists who have tasted the bitter experience of prison, following accusations from members of the government. There is political pluralism, but the leader of the largest opposition party, Fatos Nano, has been kept in prison for more than two years, even though his innocence has been established in Tirana and Rome, even though the Inter-Parliamentary Union has approved resolutions in his favor, even though Amnesty International considers him a political prisoner and calls for his immediate and unconditional release. Indeed, so as not to leave Fatos Nano sacrificed in the name of anti-democracy and the Albanian uprising, Mr. Brozi. Why is this happening? Because Fatos Nano is the political opponent, potentially the most formidable one to become a Kvasnjevski of Albania." The Norwegian ambassador assessed and set out his view, adding that now there have been improvements in the four Albanian problems. He also positively assessed the fact that all serious political forces in Albania support the country’s integration into Euro-Atlantic structures. PSSH Spokesman
