Anti-fascist Albania honors the partisan struggle and the blood shed for freedom

29 November 1944 - A landmark day in our national history . Anti-fascist Albania honors the partisan struggle and the blood shed for freedom. Today Albania celebrates the 51st anniversary of liberation from Nazi-fascist rule and domestic traitors. The partisan war waged by our people, led by its finest sons and daughters, ranked our country alongside the great allies, the USSR, England and the USA, in the great worldwide anti-fascist coalition. The blood of 28,000 martyrs, countless sacrifices and the exemplary heroism magnificently displayed by the people brought about the great day of liberation, the day that generations had dreamed of for centuries and for which rivers of blood had been shed. At the foundation of the homeland’s freedom and independence lies popular self-sacrifice, lies the magnificent and heroic, indomitable partisan struggle, which is the brightest war in our centuries-old history. The failed attempts made today by the rulers — offspring of yesterday’s collaborators with fascism — to erase 29 November 1944 from the pages of history aim precisely to denigrate and deny that great war, to smear the partisan heroism and the blood that watered every inch of this land, so that Albania’s medal of the pride of the victor may be taken away and replaced by the medals of shame worn by those who left together with the occupiers. Victory in the partisan war was not signed in the offices where today the decorations awarded to yesterday’s Ballists are signed. It was signed in the mountains and fields of Albania, it was sealed in the cities, villages, valleys and gorges of the homeland and as such it is an eternal victory because the glory of those who won the war is eternal as well, and eternal is the homeland for which they were sacrificed.

Apartheid to keep power

On Thursday in the Albanian Parliament, the majority of the Democratic Party will vote for: . Berisha’s state, after stripping the opposition of the right to work and the right to gather, now seeks to strip it also of the right to be elected. Albanians, to whom the constitutional law took away the distinction between what is right and what is wrong, between the lawful and the unlawful, and left the matter to the courts, have the right to ask: What is this commission? A super-court? Who are these people? By what right will they “select” people again? What value does pluralism have after this? Why hold elections when those elected are being determined already now, also by the vote of the people? “I do not know what the opposition will do, but the boundaries of the political struggle have been set by our opponents. Until the end they, until the end ...” said Preç Zogaj regarding the draft law submitted by the government of Aleksandër Meksi.

The PD’s submission to dossiers is a crisis of its own

. Speaks Pandeli Majko, PSSH deputy and member of the Parliamentary Legal Commission. For me, it has much greater significance, and I do not want to appear excessively calm. The way this issue is being organized must be accepted as a step forward away from political scandals. It is enough for a single “hiding” or “fabrication” of dossiers, or even a “delay” by the commission of the “honest men,” for us to start knocking. Pity, in such cases, will be the last word remembered, all the more so in an election campaign like the one ahead. This is a palpable reality, especially since our own parliament, with the law in question, sanctions this business with Albanians’ compromised past. Two articles select Albanians Read on page 3

The 83rd anniversary of the declaration of independence is celebrated by our compatriots

The 83rd anniversary of the declaration of independence is celebrated by our compatriots. -The chairman of the Socialist parliamentary group, Namik Dokle, also takes part. On Saturday and Sunday in many cantons of Switzerland, Albanians from Kosovo and other Albanian regions organized many activities to solemnly commemorate the 83rd anniversary of the declaration of independence, Flag Day. In many of these events, representatives of political forces or parliamentary groups from Albania were invited by the organizing committee. But the invitation had been addressed to everyone there, only to PS, whose parliamentary group chairman Namik Dokle took part in the planned activities. A large solemn event was held in a hall in Zurich, where the organizing committee consisted of representatives of all Albanian associations in Switzerland. The massive attendance, from family members, speeches, greetings, songs created a very enthusiastic atmosphere. The main report on the importance of the declaration of independence 83 years ago was delivered by the Kosovo jurist Skënder Ismaili. Then the chairman of the Socialist parliamentary group Namik Dokle, invited to greet the event and assess the importance of Independence Day, praised the great work of the great patriots Ismail Qemali, Hasan Prishtina, Luigj Gurakuqi, Isa Boletini, Çerçiz Topulli, Ded Gjo Luli. The Declaration of Independence, said Namik Dokle in his greeting, is not only a joyful day for us Albanians, but it is also a day for reflection on the future fate of our nation. Independence and freedom did not come cheaply to our table; they came after a series of great sacrifices, after successive struggles for freedom and independence that were fought from the lands of Kosovo to Labëri and Central Albania. Namik Dokle. A standard-bearer from Vlora 83 years ago is a great example and lesson for today’s history and the days to come, Namik Dokle concludes. Other celebrations were also held in Arbon by the Ismail Qemali association, in St. Gallen by the Mëmëdheu association, as well as in Solothurn. In Solothurn the main report was delivered by Hajredin Veliu. The meeting continued with greetings and artistic performances brought here from many Swiss cities. A group of children sang the national anthem, creating a special atmosphere for those present. In his speech, Namik Dokle said: The fact that these children sing the national anthem, besides the pleasure and enthusiasm they create for us, also gives us strength to work together for the future of these children.

Governmental confusion

. A “product” that resembles a “slip-up” is Law No. 8001 dated 22.09.1995 on genocide. In the four articles of this law, the mediocrity, irresponsibility and open violence of our so-called democratic state are evident. This law has a specific purpose: to remove opponents from political life in order to preserve power. This is nothing but a white terror that cannot take hold in Albania. Page 2
