The truth of the “Nano Case” has been fully revealed and established. Those who have made a specialism of working in the dark cannot stop the truth about Fatos Nano’s arrest and imprisonment from becoming known. The people of darkness have the same faces: devious, spiteful and barbaric. They feel powerful in dark rooms, in the mire of demagoguery and the violent eruption of instinct. Where there is instinct, there is no reason, no law, no heart. The people of darkness feel powerful when they are together among themselves, when they manage to lie and deceive. But these things cannot help them for long. The truth has struck, and they emerge exposed in their barbarity. Under these circumstances, even those who believed them are shaken and leave, angry and offended. And the barbarians are left among themselves. In a democracy, where cultivated people guided by reason are the majority, the barbaric people of darkness are a minority. This minority status frightens them. It makes them think about the responsibilities that fall upon them. This is where anxiety, insecurity and alarm begin. The latest resolution of a serious, high-level organization such as the World Inter-Parliamentary Union is a new moment in the revelation of the truth of the “Nano Case,” a new argument for his innocence, and a proper and serious call for his release. The sophistry of the spiteful people of darkness surrounding this Re-[?] Life of the Albanians. Those who have fallen deeply in love with careers in power are afraid, and reason in simplistic terms: If Nano gets out of prison, he will demand a seat of power. Fatos Nano is the chairman of the socialist opposition, which competes in political struggle by democratic means and methods, but is not guided by careerist interests in power. It is the people who place people in the seats of power. And the will of the people cannot be stopped. They fear that Fatos Nano’s release will be accompanied by demands to hold accountable those Albanians who called for his head, who thought that by beheading the Socialist Party they would destroy it, and those who staged, prepared and carried out the “Nano Case.” As can be seen, concrete actors stand behind this contrived case, built on serious violations of the law and of human freedoms and rights. Some gave the orders. Some were merely the executors. Some combined all these roles and share responsibility. They have no concrete reason for opposing Fatos Nano’s release. Now they cannot even stay together in the dark rooms. Many of them are rushing to put together quick alibis and make efforts to evade or lessen their responsibilities. Truth and justice demand that the “Nano Case” now be resolved. That Fatos Nano be released. The bells of democracy, of Albanian socialists, of the rule of law, of judicial independence, of human freedoms and rights, of the dignity and destiny of Albania—and the bells of Europe, of its distinguished figures and important organizations such as the World Inter-Parliamentary Union—are ringing for the President of the Republic, the Albanian Parliament and the Albanian justice system. By now, no one can excuse themselves by saying they cannot hear them. Even if they have not heard the bells, they have not listened. The latest resolution of a high-ranking international organization, such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union, is a new moment in bringing to light the truth about a fair and serious demand for his freedom. The sophistry of the spiteful and the obscurity they cast around this Resolution, and the attempts to minimize its effects, are merely an outpouring of the fear and panic of that minority that insists on not resolving the “Nano Case.” The release of Fatos Nano is deliberately and strenuously obstructed by those who fear the truth and their own political opponent, Fatos Nano. Why are they afraid? They are afraid because they are deliberate violators of the laws. Because they manufacture political opponents. Because they are enforcers of class warfare against those who refuse to accept injustices and violations of the law and the trampling of democracy; those who refuse to accept the government’s incompetence and corruption, who refuse to accept Albania’s destabilization and insecurity of ...

There are 40,000 homeless families throughout Albania today—this is the official figure that the National Housing Agency advertised just two days ago in one of the Albanian newspapers. It is not yet known how accurate this figure is, but in any case, that is how many are said to be registered. The figure would rise considerably if those living in basements, newly erected shacks, bunkers, forcibly occupied kindergartens, dormitories and former Party school premises were registered, along with tenants and those seeking more space in overcrowded conditions. The problem did not arise today; part of it was inherited from the previous regime. But it has become enormously acute. People—nervous because of the difficult situation—look for an explanation of the massive vote of 22 March in the bombastic promise: “We will finally solve the housing problem.” Faced with drastic disappointment—aware of the grand deception—the 40,000 families are seeking their place in the queue that formed spontaneously. They are waiting and asking only for JUSTICE. This is the least they expect in their dreams of the villas of the former Bloc. But the image is broken, recreated, and broken again, because it does not come to pass; indeed, they find themselves facing the “Government Bloc.” There is a great difference with this “new” one, and the slogan “human dimension,” “humanitarian dimension,” is meant to define it—materialized by the new blockists through “living in apartment buildings among the people.” Aleksandër Meksi lives in an apartment building (why the devil doesn’t he go to a Government Residence?), Pjetër Arbnori lives in an apartment building, although according to “Populli Po” he rents out his house in Shkodër; Safet Zhuzali and Dylber Vrioni live in apartment buildings too, as does Ble- rim Cela... Teachers with more than 25 years of service in Peshkopi will be subjected to a systematic salary deduction for three consecutive fortnights, a deduction equal to half a month’s salary. The deduction is justified by a written notice from the department, according to which the supplement for the highest work category (for teachers with more than 20 years of service in education) takes effect on 1 March 1995, nearly a month after they were subjected to category examinations [?] The period from November to March for these teachers, who for years have been certified in the highest category, is arbitrarily wiped out by the central government, and the corresponding amount they received above the base salary will be returned to the state treasury. Yesterday, at the premises of the Socialist Party in the district of Durrës, the district Veterans’ Committee and the Association for the Fallen of the Nation organized a commemorative gathering to mark 7 April, the day of resistance against the fascist occupation, attended by veterans and contemporaries of Mujo Ulqinaku. Socialist Party MPs Bardhyl Agasi and Mojkom Zeqo also took part in the gathering. The latter, as the author of the book “Mujo Ulqinaku,” spoke about moments from the people’s heroic resistance and Mujo Ulqinaku’s role in it. After the gathering, the veterans and Socialist Party MPs laid wreaths at the monument to the People’s Hero, Mujo Ulqinaku, and visited the families of his fellow fighters. It is citizen R. Z. who has “embarrassed” the police in the city of Polican. Detained along with two other citizens, accused of theft, R. Z. was kept at the police station all day, then managed to escape with handcuffs on, leaving behind his ... V. B., who remains in detention even today, but has been admitted to hospital. The “escape” of R. Z. is strange (!) Given the location of the station in the city of Polican and the handcuffs on his wrists, could anything but nightfall have helped him? Meanwhile, as he has been declared wanted, the police officer who had the handcuffs in his inventory approached R. Z.’s father, giving him the handcuff key? so that he could find them on the escapee and return them to the police station. On the other hand, R. On Thursday, the 84th anniversary of the raising of the flag at Deçiç by the highland insurgents, led by their leader Ded Gjo Luli, was commemorated in Hot, in Malësia e Madhe. The battle at Deçiç has gone down in history as a high point in our people’s struggle for freedom and national independence. On this occasion, presentations devoted to the event were delivered, and several other activities were held.

The Mamaras commune has had troubling problems with the land allocation. But now a turnaround is noticeable. The entire administration of this commune has been spread out among the villages in recent days. The progress so far—98 percent of the land allocated and 80 percent of the title deeds issued—is satisfactory, compared with the figures having remained stuck at 50 percent for several months. Shkëndër Ajazi, the head of this commune, says that we will complete this task fully within a few days.

So far, 31 boats at the Durrës Fishing Enterprise have been privatized, and 6 more are in the process of being privatized. Contrary to the development this should have brought, by serving the interests of both private owners and the state, numerous difficulties are evident. Fish-catch taxes are very high, and the state is obstructing the sale of fish abroad as well as the purchase of fuel at the prices prevailing in neighboring countries.

It has happened, to the indignation of Shkodër pensioners, that even their monthly compensation for electricity has been taken away. They are now being given 300 new lekë less. This deduction also includes the amount of wages they were paid and ... pension in the previous month.
