THE LATEST ATTACKS ON "ZËRI I POPULLIT" WILL NOT SAVE THE AUTHORITIES FROM RESPONSIBILITY FOR CORRUPTION AND THE THEFT OF THE PEOPLE'S WEALTH

- The newspaper "Zëri i popullit" is surrounded by large police forces - The prosecutor's office arrests the former editor-in-chief of "Zëri i popullit" and a member of the General Steering Committee of the Socialist Party - The SP and "Zëri i popullit" will first get through the latest trouble with the corrupt power of the PD "Why does the newspaper "Zëri i popullit", in this critical situation attacked from every possible and impossible direction by the authorities, continue to appear and carry out its activity?" The answer is simple. "Zëri i popullit" has been and is the free voice of the opposition and of a very large part of the Albanian people who want change. That is the only and very clear reason why the newspaper has been attacked politically, economically, with police and with the most varied intrigues. It is being struck in the name of the "state" and the "law", while those who strike it are a symbol of the abuse of the state and the trampling of the law. Today, they have mobilized police forces around it, have exerted pressure on the employees, have threatened sellers and distributors, and have tried to isolate it from its readers. But the truth cannot be shut away with police. Free speech cannot be imprisoned by orders. The newspaper cannot remain silent about corruption, theft, abuses of power and of public property. In this context, the arrest of the former editor-in-chief of "Zëri i popullit" and of a member of the General Steering Committee of the Socialist Party must also be seen. This is an act of political pressure and an attempt to frighten the opposition and the opposition press. Instead of investigating the real scandals, the voices that denounce them are being prosecuted. Instead of striking the authors of corruption, those who raise their voices against it are being pursued. The SP and "Zëri i popullit" will also emerge from this clash with the corrupt power of the PD. The history of these years has shown that administrative and police violence cannot solve the moral and political crisis of governance. The more pressure is increased on free speech, the clearer becomes the responsibility of the authorities for the condition into which the country has been reduced. Albanian citizens know who is stealing the common wealth, who is getting rich on the poverty of the majority, who is using the state as a private instrument. The attacks against "Zëri i popullit" will not save the authorities from this responsibility. On the contrary, they reveal even more clearly their fear of the truth and of the judgment of public opinion.
