9 May - a general appeal
Today, 9 May, progressive forces across the world commemorate the great 50th anniversary of the victory over the Nazi beast, the liberation of our continent from the war to dominate Europe and the whole world. Even though the event marks half a century, it has not lost its present-day weight and significance. This event is not only a victory of the anti-Hitler coalition, but a victory of the peoples and their democratic and socialist forces, a victory of the ideals of freedom, independence and progress.
The National Liberation Army, the entire Albanian family, our hundreds of thousands of fallen, the victims of the concentration camp, the interned and persecuted by Nazi-fascism, and the veterans of our National Liberation War experience 9 May today not only as a distant historical day, but as a living experience of sacrifice and lessons for our society.
Our people as a whole in the struggle against the occupiers and their collaborators, for the defense of freedom and independence, for the establishment of democratic order and for its aspiration to progress. We celebrate this anniversary also as a day of reflection on today’s developments and as an appeal to everyone to defend the values of freedom, peace and solidarity.
