A remarkable day for Albanian women!
Today, Albania in the Council of Europe
Recognition, but also a great obligation for the future
Albania’s admission to the Council of Europe is a historical victory for the Albanian women’s movement.
Albania’s admission to the Council of Europe is not only recognition of the achievements of Albanian democracy, but also a major obligation for the future. This event is of particular importance for Albanian women as well. For years, women’s organizations have been among the most steadfast supporters of the democratic processes in the country, the strengthening of the rule of law, and social emancipation. Albania’s inclusion in the Council of Europe opens new opportunities for the protection of women’s rights, for the advancement of gender equality, and for their greater participation in social and political life.
Our delegation in the European Parliament[?] and in other international bodies will now have more opportunities to present the problems and achievements of Albanian women. We will be able to benefit from the experience of other countries, strengthen cooperation, and encourage new initiatives in the service of the family, children, and society as a whole.
Today is a day of joy, but also of reflection. It reminds us that the path of European integration requires more responsibility, more work, and more dedication. Albanian women have shown that they are an important force in our society and will continue to contribute to a democratic and European Albania.

For a more active civil coalition of SHIK!?!
Today, an Albanian among Albanians and not a chief of the Security Service
The Albanian press, especially the right-wing press, has been dealing for two or three months with the SHIK issue and with its head, Mr. Bashkim Gazidede. From his interviews on the pages of newspapers and on television, to his appearances at meetings, press conferences, and parliamentary committees, Mr. Gazidede has become an everyday figure in Albanian political life. Many comments have been made regarding the role of this institution and its involvement in matters that go beyond its functions.
That all? No. In many cases it has been stressed that SHIK is also acting as a political instrument in the hands of power and is being used to exert pressure on political opponents. For this reason, the idea has been raised of greater civilian oversight over this institution and of the need for it to stay away from political confrontation.
If SHIK is truly to be a national intelligence service, it must protect the interests of the state and of citizens, not identify itself with a party or a particular figure. Albania needs serious, professional, and responsible institutions.

The Socialist Party unquestionably values the development of this system... [?]
Before the stage of assessment and consolidation, the social democrats of Albanians have the duty to become promoters of the country’s tomorrow. In this sense, we consider that European integration and the strengthening of democracy in Albania are objectives that require the commitment of all progressive forces. The Socialists of Albania, united around their program, will be a factor of stability and modernization. In this direction, a new spirit of cooperation and a more civic approach to politics is necessary.
We are convinced that only through serious dialogue and respect for institutions can progress be made. This is a duty toward the country, toward the citizens, and toward Albania’s future.
Police violence against the news
During the last few days in Korçë, several episodes of tension between the police and citizens have been recorded, which have also sparked reactions in the local press. According to published reports, the journalist and cameraman[?] were obstructed while carrying out their duties and were put under pressure by police officers.
The incident has raised concern about freedom of the media and about the way law enforcement bodies treat press representatives. Various organizations and citizens have called for clarification and for appropriate measures to be taken.
In a democratic society, the media must freely perform its informative and oversight role, without fear and without obstacles.
The conference on foreign investments in Albania continues
While today an important forum for foreign investors is being organized in Albania, attention is focused on the opportunities our country offers to foreign capital. In the discussions, the importance of economic reforms, political stability, and the legal framework for attracting investments has been emphasized.
Representatives of business and institutions have valued Albania’s potential in various fields, underlining the need for better infrastructure and clearer administrative procedures.
The conference is expected to continue with further meetings during the day.
Crackdown on Albanian journalists in Prishtina
After the killing of the Canadian journalist MUÇO[?]

We are in a situation of joy for Kosovo’s admission as a member of the Council of Europe,[?] but at the same time we cannot remain silent in the face of the serious घटनements affecting the Albanian press in Kosovo. Various reports speak of threats, detentions, and acts of violence against Albanian journalists in Prishtina.
These acts are a direct blow against freedom of speech and the right to information. Democratic public opinion must react strongly, and international institutions must take measures to protect journalists.

The Juve scandal!
Is this a covert police operation against opposition subjects and political opponents, or an attempt to intercept the flow of data? Various allegations are circulating around the issue of interference in encrypted communications and the use of special tracking devices.
If this turns out to be true, then we are dealing with a serious violation of citizens’ rights and privacy. The debate has taken on a sharp tone in the press.
