With Pietro Zanoni's brains?

Note of the day For about a year, a man from Italy used to send, once a week, through the fax of the newspaper "Zëri i Popullit", a ten-meter fax with an interesting material consisting of nothing but his photograph and the signature below: Pietro Zanoni, press office, Bari, Italy. The most ordinary conversation that was held on this occasion was: who sent us this psychopath as a gift? Our insistence by telephone that he should no longer send us faxes was answered by his showing up one day at the redaction door, dressed in tracksuit, unwashed, with a market cassette player at his belt and socks in his dress shoes. This person was Pietro Zanoni, who until that moment had given us such a headache as thirty rolls of fax paper. But with a little effort we managed to shut down the fax, despite the fact that he was ready to testify about mafia links between many Albanian government officials and Cosa Nostra, political murders and numerous thefts involving dozens of government officials from various countries, and anything else his sick mind could invent. And then one day he came to become a character in the Albanian newspapers. We have always had the responsibility to know that in political struggle one cannot bring in psychopaths, especially those who are outside the borders, because there are already too many of them in the country itself. But as it happens, while for two years Albanian newspapers have not opened the way to Zanoni-style news and have been closing the faxes, the Albanian state and the ruling party emerged, not to open the door to a fax but to the Albanian radio and television itself, the telegraphic agency and the government newspapers. It is understandable that even those who publish Zanoni know who he is, but that does not matter to them. It is enough that a man appeared who agrees to say what serves the interests of power at a given moment. It is not hard to see the cynicism of the statement of the Democratic Party and the desire that, even if you are a bit shaken by the slanders made, you end up believing them. This is not simply another usual attack against the free and oppressed press, but legitimate structures of the Albanian state are also accused, such as all opposition MPs, who are said to receive regular rewards from the Serbian secret services. This shows the real purpose of why such events are fabricated and amplified: First, to shift attention away from the real problems troubling Albanian society. The world press and highly prestigious organizations in the world have made serious accusations against the Albanian authorities. Dozens of facts have been presented that speak of breaches of the embargo against Serbia, arms trafficking, thousands of massacres in interethnic clashes, the depositing of the assets of those in power in London banks, etc., etc. Second, to smear as much as possible those who are preparing to come to power by spreading the psychosis that "they are just like us"—even more, connected to Serbia. A third aim is that, through the fabrication of endless and bizarre scandals, Albanian public opinion be destroyed so that nothing said in the media and press is believed. To do any kind of work, sweat and thought are needed; the advice of specialists is needed. Even more so for a state that is drowning in these last ten and more years and that needs accountability. But if the homeland is the homeland of Pietro Zanoni or becomes his accomplice, then it does not just spend thirty rolls of fax paper. From now on it has begun to waste several tons of paper and dozens of hours lost for Albanians. And these are not the thoughts of Pietro Zanoni. Thoma Gëllçi
