At the invitation of the Socialist Party of Bulgaria, an SPP delegation made an official visit to Sofia. It consisted of the Deputy Secretary General and Presidium member Prof. Dr. Sabit Brokaj, and member of the SPP General Steering Committee and deputy editor-in-chief of the newspaper “Zëri i Popullit,” Luan M. Rama. On 26.04.1996, the delegation was received in separate meetings at the headquarters of the Socialist Party of Bulgaria by its deputy chairmen, Georgi Përvanov and Janaki Stoillov. They discussed further intensifying the good relations between the two parties and giving them more concrete form during the election campaign, when the Bulgarian socialists would be present with their observers and assistance. Also on 26.04.1996, the SPP delegation was received for a working meeting at the Bulgarian National Assembly by Krasimir Premjanov, deputy chairman of the Socialist Party of Bulgaria and head of the Democratic Left parliamentary group in that Parliament. They discussed in particular the legal basis for implementing reforms and the role of the parliamentary group after taking power. The leaders of the Socialist Party of Bulgaria, expressing confidence in the victory of the Albanian socialists in the parliamentary elections of 26 May, once again confirmed their support for SPP chairman Fatos Nano, conveying to him and the Socialist Party of Albania Prime Minister Videnov’s wishes for his speedy release from prison and success in governing Albania on the path of democracy and progress and its integration into European structures. Prof. Dr. Sabit Brokaj thanked the leaders of the Socialist Party of Bulgaria for their support and offered assistance, and assured them that after victory on 26 May all the conditions and opportunities would be created to reshape relations between the two countries, creating the necessary scope for freedom of movement, intensifying trade, and establishing security for investments. The Albanian socialists, determined to win and capable of governing, guarantee the continuation of reforms to consolidate the market economy, strengthen the rule of law, and achieve Albania’s real integration into Euro-Atlantic structures.
