Today

Sali Berisha’s ballot-box farce Today there is a runoff in 9 electoral zones involving 35 defeated candidates of the right-wing coalition. These are three each in Durrës, Berat, Gramsh and Vlorë; two each in Tiranë, Pogradec, Gjirokastër and Kolonjë; and one each in Fier, Lushnjë, Tepelenë, Korçë, Kukës, Lezhë and Kurbin. On 26 May, although cases in which victory is decided by a single vote have been rare, such calculations have been seen and made. They also appear in the assessments, in this connection, made by Berisha’s allies regarding the disputed election result. For example, the National Unity Party, with all of its contribution, gives the Democrats 13,500 votes. If it has won them all with minority votes, in the case of Vlorë, for example, 9,100 kept alive the hopes of Gazideda’s defeat and another 4,400 sent the Nista candidate to the “runoff” with a difference of just one vote. The contribution of the allies in the zones where there is a runoff is even more significant. When in none of the 16 districts mentioned above had any commission decision been annulled, their 4,500 votes turn into “first aid” for Berisha, today in the respective zones. For example: 560 in Vlorë, 470 in Tiranë, 9,100 in Gjirokastër, 1,750 in Kolonjë, etc. All according to the votes of 26 May, even if the other cases of “assistance” were difficult to repeat. But since the repeat will be carried out starting today in the name of the “free vote”, Berisha will try to achieve it with what secured him victory on 26 May, even with money and police. BSH and SHIK will reinforce their forces in the runoff areas and will continue the “buying” or “seizure” of voters where their bases exist. If the Solomonic ideas of Froyd and Cekovski are ready to topple the right-wing candidate in Kolonjë by 7 votes, the ideas of Bashkim Fino and Vasil Tole can also close the accounts with 28 minority votes in Vlorë.
