10 January: investigation into the loan schemes
The Parliamentary Transparency Commission at its first meeting
The government seeks to evade responsibility for the uncertainty over the repayment of citizens’ money to creditors
Aleksandër Meksi:
It is about those people who entered the loan game as one enters bingo, a lottery. We know that for those who entered the game, we made such a 100 percent scheme: one wins the money and another pays it. They lost money, and those whose spouses entered this game.

Unfounded uproar by the newspaper “Koha Jonë”
Clarification regarding the competition announced for the vacant post of vice-president of the Bank of Greece
In October 1996, the Greek press published the announcement that a competition had been opened for a vacant seat on the Monetary Council of the Bank of Greece. “Koha Jonë”, apparently irresponsible in its journalistic research, took this announcement, published in the official gazette of Greece, at face value, where the call for candidates among Albanian emigrants was also published, who will also be members of the advisory board for emigration in Greece and will take part in managing this fund. But these two matters have nothing to do with each other, and “Koha Jonë” confused them without any verification.
To tell the truth, three candidates competed for the position of vice-president of the Bank of Greece, each of whom submitted the required documentation according to the criteria established by law. Neither the Embassy of the Republic of Albania in Athens nor the Albanian government made any intervention or recommendation to any Greek state body regarding this appointment.
In 1997, by a special decree of the President of Greece, the vice-president of the Bank of Greece is appointed by the President of the Republic. In this context, the Albanian press should show greater responsibility and avoid creating unfounded uproar.
