I am ready to go to Shkodër

Albanian Prime Minister Bashkim Fino speaks about the roadblock of 6 April 1996 “I always hope that Albanian Prime Minister Bashkim Fino will not ask that the country's prime minister give the police or the army orders to use force...” "An attack on national reconciliation" "I always hope that Albanian Prime Minister Bashkim Fino will not ask that the country's prime minister give the police or the army orders to use force..." An attack on national reconciliation The incident in Bushat was carried out to provoke the people of Shkodër. "Zëri i Popullit" Bushat went through another difficult ordeal this weekend. That Shkodran area was shaken again on Friday afternoon, when state police forces opened fire on the crowd at the Golem school. Nine civilians were injured in Shkodër. What makes this event even more mysterious is the fact that Berisha kept secret from the public all night the agreement he had made with the mayor of Shkodër on Saturday. This agreement removed all obstacles to the reinstatement of the prefect and the police commissioner in the city. It was being widely considered as "Shkodra does not..." [sic][?] Three days earlier, last Thursday, after three weeks from 6 February, there had been over 170,000 armed people with weapons. 80 people from Bushat...[?] During the weekend of protests, Berisha had brought numerous forces into the city; even armored vehicles with large numbers of troops had arrived from Tirana. Many of them had been stationed in the schoolyard of Golem. Along with them, during the protest, heavy machinery and tanks also arrived. Faced with panic and bloodshed, part of the crowd, taken by surprise, broke into a run toward the Bahçallëk bridge. Against the background of the noise of gunshots, angry cries were also heard: "Shkodra does not want tanks." In the end, it seems that what happened in Bushat has now become one more argument against the use of violence and the iron fist against the northwest. It seems that even those who had previously insisted on the arrival of the prefect with weapons and tank barrels have backed down. This is also confirmed by Bashkim Fino's statement yesterday. Shkodër distances itself from armed bandits

The Albanian city, on Sunday the 6th and Saturday, was called and with three decades, and written, now ... [?] 1. bitter chronicle The shocking spectacle, the overstretched police, and a population held hostage by armed gangs — this is how the situation in the northern city can be described in a few words. Shkodër continues to hold its breath, while every day new weapons appear on its streets. Over the weekend, after a serious incident in Bushat, 80 armed people had blocked the Bushat road to seal off access to the city. Meanwhile, heavy police forces and tanks had arrived to bring the area under control. In the city center, people gathered in silence, while armed groups appeared near schools, the hospital, and public buildings. Shopkeepers kept their doors half closed, while children stayed at home. In the evening, the gunfire and the shots continued. The situation is complicated and calls for calm, but appeals to reason are losing out to the force of weapons. Many citizens say they want no more bloodshed and that Shkodër must return to normal. [continued on page 2]
