EDITORIAL Someone is trying to provoke Vlora again. With irresponsible and ominous statements, defamatory articles and anonymous letters, someone is trying to take revenge on it. That someone seeking revenge against Vlora is Sali Berisha. Enraged by the blow Vlora dealt to his autocratic power, Berisha and his serving tools have launched an attack on all fronts to obstruct, to [unclear in source], to vilify and to malign Vlora and its inhabitants. Behind these efforts lies their desire to make Vlora bleed again. Vlora of History, Vlora of freedom, Vlora of democracy was the center of peaceful and civilized anti-Berisha protests, which triggered the awakening of the popular revolt against Sali Berisha throughout Albania. It dealt a fatal blow to his illegitimate power. It became a symbol of the struggle against violence and arbitrariness. Vlora wrote another glorious page in its history. Vlora paid a heavy price for this glorious page of history: 135 of its sons and daughters were sacrificed at the foundations of this new history. Hundreds of people were bloodied in this glorious history. No city in Albania was damaged as severely as Vlora and its people. Now that a new hope has begun for Vlora and for all Albania, Vlora too is trying to heal its wounds, is easing [continues on page 2]

Senior Socialist leaders arrive in Shkodër. On Friday they travelled to the northern city to attend the condolence visit and funeral of Shkodër doctor Zamir Shazi, who was killed by the criminal bullets of the leader of the Albanian Socialist Party. Secretary General Rexhep Meidani, Organizational Secretary Namik Dokle and Public Relations Secretary Pandeli Majko paid their respects at the Municipal Building, where the coffin containing the victim’s body was located, and offered condolences to his family. Meeting with family members and relatives, the Socialist leaders expressed their condolences over the death of 48-year-old doctor Shazi, calling it a great loss not only for his family but also for Albanian society as a whole, which knew and valued him as a capable doctor and surgeon. The Socialist leaders stressed that the law must act in response to such barbaric acts and that those responsible for this act must be brought to justice. During their stay, the Socialist representatives also held many meetings with citizens of Shkodër, with whom they shared their indignation at such acts.
