As soon as he was officially informed of the PSSH decision to run in the elections for the People's Assembly, the Greek Foreign Minister Teodoros Pangalos invited Fatos Nano, president of the PSSH, to his office yesterday to talk about political developments in Albania, Kosovo and the region.
In a warm and friendly reception, Mr. Pangalos gave a broad overview of political developments in Greece, focusing on the recent events in Albania. At this meeting Nano informed the Greek foreign minister about the PSSH platform for the elections of 29 June. Teodoros Pangalos highly գնահատed the democratic changes taking place in Albania and assured his socialist friend that the Greek government is interested in the swift resolution of the crisis in our country.
The relations between Albania and Greece, based on mutual interests, said Pangalos, constitute a new stage of European cooperation in the region. He described the democratization process in our country as irreversible and stated that Greece encourages and supports the normal conduct of the elections of 29 June.
The Greek leader expressed to Mr. Nano his appreciation for his commitment and that of the PSSH to restoring calm and normality. After assuring him of Greece's friendship with Albania, Teodoros Pangalos stated that he will take all necessary steps to help solve the problems that concern both countries.
Today, he said, the Greek government is particularly interested in stabilizing Albania. It is helping in this direction through frequent political and diplomatic contacts as well as through economic and humanitarian assistance. Greeting the positive role of Mr. Nano and the PSSH in overcoming the crisis, the Greek foreign minister highly valued the contribution of the Socialist leader to bringing better days closer, as well as to resolving the unresolved issues with Albania.

PSSH reacts: Political crime must be stopped!
PSSH reacts:
Political crime must be stopped!
The PSSH welcomes the determination to win power through free votes and not by force of arms. It was struck on 6 June 1997, by a suspicious form of a right-wing opposition figure[?], and the perpetrators are suspected to be from Qafë-Bari[?].
The PSSH sees and analyzes this as a contribution to solving the country's problems. Likewise, it respects the right of every other party to take part in elections and compete for victory. Precisely on this basis, the political forces in Albania have, on the foundation of the 9 March agreement and the decisions of the Assembly, consolidated a new climate of tolerance, with respect and mutual understanding, in relation to one another.
But against this position expressed and pursued by the PSSH and its allies, the PD and Sali Berisha have acted up to now. During this period he, together with several senior leaders of that party and of power, at once organizers and participants in the armed campaign against political activists and forces of the opposition, has called for the use of weapons and political violence.
As early as 2 June, with the alarm given for Tirana, Berisha warned that the country would be plunged into civil war, something that was denied by the entire democratic opinion. Later, on 6 June, he ordered the republican guard and the law-enforcement structures, in violation of the laws, to use tanks against unarmed people, in order to gain a political victory. The state he leads undertook arbitrary actions against newspapers, radio stations and opposition parties, violating the law and human freedoms.
The closing of the doors to citizens and the undisciplined protests on 8 June toward the institutions were used by those in power as an alibi to justify the use of weapons against the people. Today in Elbasan, at the close of the opposition rally, there were again gunshots and injured people. This is a serious political act, for which responsibility falls on its perpetrators and instigators.
The PSSH calls on all political forces, public opinion, international actors and state institutions to condemn these acts and to intervene to stop the escalation of political crime.
