It can be said that, just as on March 22, when almost everyone knew that the DP would win, as it did, because the people wanted to live differently, the same situation is repeating itself on the eve of this June 29. This is the swift and historic punishment received by the DP as a political force that squandered the trust of the Albanians. The people want to live differently—not in terror and insecurity, not robbed and traumatized. They seek peace and security, understanding and coexistence. During its five arduous years in government, the Democratic Party showed that it could not, and did not want to, give the people these values, which are normal in a democratic society. Given the state Albania has reached, it can be said without hesitation that taking responsibility for governing the country is a great act of courage. Although the international community, standing by us as always, has said that it will provide concrete assistance to Albania after the elections, the dramatic situation we find ourselves in, the pessimism that has gripped many segments of society, the criminalization of many people, and the fact that Kalashnikovs are everywhere.
