Press statement by the Albanian government on the occasion of the Yeltsin–Milošević meeting Far from the Contact Group’s demands The Albanian government is following the Yeltsin–Milošević meeting in Moscow closely and has taken note of its final statement. Aside from that, Milošević’s commitments as reflected in this statement do not meet all the demands of the international community, and in particular those of the Contact Group. Consequently, they do not constitute a full guarantee that the conflict in Kosovo will end and dialogue resume. The immediate withdrawal from Kosovo of the Serbian army and police forces; the cessation of all fighting there; an end to the policy of ethnic cleansing of Albanians from their lands, with specific measures and deadlines; and unconditional talks, in the presence of the international community, to resolve the problems with Kosovo’s Albanian leadership—these would be concrete commitments by the official authorities in Belgrade in which the international community and the Albanian government would have an interest. To continue equating Belgrade’s repressive state violence with the resistance imposed on Kosovo, and to use this to justify not withdrawing Serbian military and police forces from Kosovo, means that one is still engaging in demagoguery and remains far from the legitimate demands put forward by the international community. The Albanian government is very keen for the crisis in Kosovo to be brought to an end as soon as possible through the immediate cessation of fighting, an end to the bloodshed and the forced displacement of Albanians. But this can be achieved through joint, concrete action by the international community and the Albanian government. Any undesirable wish of the diplomatic efforts of politicians, political leaders, Kosovars and military personnel[?]
