50 THROWN INTO THE SEA
Albanian speedboat smugglers throw 50 Albanians and Kurds into the sea near Otranto
OTRANTO - last night a strong alarm signal was raised by the Italian police forces after 50 clandestine migrants were thrown into the territorial waters of the Adriatic.
A fishing vessel named “Bora” became the protagonist of this tragedy and of this inhuman act. As the Italian news agency ANSA reports, the boat was spotted about 11 nautical miles off the coast of Otranto and 15 miles off the coast of Vlora. All 50 people thrown into the sea are Albanians and Kurds, while it is suspected that many others remained trapped on the speedboat. Meanwhile, the Brindisi coast guard immediately launched a search operation.
According to Italian sources, the fishing boat was moving with its lights off. After seeing that it was being pursued by the police, the smugglers forced the migrants to jump into the sea. Other coast guard vessels and helicopters also took part in the operation. The report says that among those thrown overboard there were women and children. Searches for survivors continued until late at night.
This event once again brings back the drama of clandestine migration in the Otranto Channel, where several similar tragedies have occurred in recent years.
Laughter?, cruelty, horror!

In these last 8 years, when governments began changing with unbelievable speed, parliament exists as the foundation of the state, not as a board of slander. The power that has taught us to build the state has always been weak in the face of those who have violated it. If Albanian society is in trouble today, it is because they have devalued the vote, mocked the institutions and turned the law into their own property.
A few years are enough to understand that a democratic country is not held together by insults and resentment, but by law and responsibility. Albanian politics has grown up with shouting, clashes, lack of ethics and hatred. But the country cannot remain hostage to this behavior. We need a state, an honest administration, a parliament that oversees the government and justice that punishes crime.
Today, when everyone talks about integration, we must begin with the simplest things: respect for others, respect for the law and a clear separation between the state and private interests. Otherwise, every word about Europe is just demagoguery.
This is the lesson of recent years and this is our challenge.
