Bombs until the end

NO HALF-MEASURES IN KOSOVO Clinton vows to continue bombing Yugoslavia U.S. President Bill Clinton vowed yesterday that NATO would continue bombing Yugoslavia “without pause, without interruption and until the end” until President Slobodan Millosheviç withdraws all his forces from Kosovo and accepts the international peace plan for Kosovo. Clinton also announced new efforts to deliver humanitarian aid, including food, tarpaulins, tents and other supplies, for ethnic Albanian refugees who have fled to Albania and Macedonia. But efforts to provide aid, including the threatened tightening of restrictions on nearly 200,000 refugees from several countries, should not be considered an international plan for Millosheviç’s campaign against Kosovo, Clinton said. “Ethnic cleansing cannot continue indefinitely,” Clinton said, emphasizing: “Our immediate goal is to ease the situation. Our long-term goal is to ensure the refugees’ right to return.” Clinton’s strongly worded statement is an apparent effort to forestall any possible Yugoslav moves aimed at weakening the support the NATO Alliance has for its bombing campaign, which has entered its 13th day. “Milosheviç has created a humanitarian catastrophe in Kosovo,” Clinton said. “He must end it today by stopping the killings.”

24 “tank killers” in Albania

NATO helicopter attacks are being stepped up. Twenty-four “Apache” AH-64 helicopters will be deployed in our country to allow the Alliance’s “air campaign to expand.” 2,000 American soldiers and 24 AH-64 “Apache” helicopters, considered in military parlance to be “tank killers,” will be stationed in Albania within a few days. The announcement, cited by various news agencies, refers to a press statement by Pentagon spokesman Keneth Bacon. The Albanian government approved a bill allowing a NATO military force to be admitted to Albania for its strike operations. The idea of deploying “Apache” helicopters in Albania was raised by President Clinton’s adviser on security affairs, Samuel Berger. PAGE 15

Against genocide in Paris and Athens

In Athens too, following Prague, Vienna, Bucharest, Bonn and the capitals of Europe, Albanian emigrants in Greece held a powerful protest on Sunday against the unprecedented crimes and successive massacres being carried out by Millosheviç’s regime to exterminate the Albanian population in Kosovo. According to the newspaper’s correspondents in Athens, several thousand Albanians gathered at Kotzia Square for this protest demonstration. PAGE 2

ZERI I POPULLIT — TESTIMONY

110 killed • One of the thousands of arrivals from Kosovo testified yesterday to Voice of America and the international judges in The Hague about an appalling massacre in Krushë e Vogël near Peja, where the Yugoslav army executed 110 Albanians and then covered them with straw and set them on fire. “After separating the men of Krusha from the women and children, the Serbian soldiers put them all in one house, execute them together as a group, and burn their bodies amid the screams of the wounded.”

They hang a 4-year-old

• At the bus station I saw with my own eyes a 4-year-old child hanging. He had been at his uncle’s, Hysen Dedja, an old man who was ill. Serbian forces entered the house and killed the old man; after killing his 4-year-old nephew, they took him outside and hanged him at the bus station. I saw this with my own eyes; the whole population of the city of Gjakova saw it,” Halit Duraku from Gjakova recounts, speaking of the Serbian cannibals of this end of the century in the heart of Europe.

Mass graves

• There are at least two mass graves of Albanians in Suharekë, killed by Serbian soldiers and paramilitaries. Hasan Berisha, 47, who arrived on Monday at the Morina customs post in the Kukës district, told ATSH that on Sunday evening Serbian military and paramilitary forces killed about 40 men from Suharekë as they, together with other residents of the town, were attempting to flee en masse. “All the victims were buried in two mass pits on the outskirts of the town,” Berisha said.

13 burned

• “I was in the basement of the house when the Serbian occupiers found us. They immediately took us out of there. They took my husband, four uncles, my cousin, and the guests out into the yard and killed them before our eyes. Then something happened that we could never have imagined. They burned the dead before our eyes.”
