And the place? At the grave of 12 September of last year, in front of a small crowd of spectators and especially of the special forces of Tirana with the name N. Z. noted and unconfirmed, through which it was communicated that, together with the enemy of his house, the Tirana emergency headquarters and the anti-terrorist unit of Unit 326 of the Ministry of the Interior had been arrested. The names of the “today” signal were unclear and inhuman in its sources. But around 18:20, with two men, one a duty officer and the other a driver, on the way to the headquarters of the democrats, his car was sprayed with automatic rifle fire near it from a crowd of people. The muzzle of the automatic weapon hit the dog’s drum before the driver, the bullets destroyed the car door. Injured in the muscle by the LSI doctor, the driver came out empty-handed with the pistol, but the shock of the killing forced him to disappear with it. 24 hours later at the funeral of 12 September, the state representatives asked each other: who was that drunken man in the SHIK office near the “Partizani” school who unfairly drew the attention of the Guard and the criminal police? Who was that man who could be seen nowhere but supposedly had set, in the evening’s trap, one of the most important officials of the law-enforcement forces? Who was that drunken man who, instead of going to the SHIK headquarters, which was only a few meters away from the scene of the tragedy, had taken the opposite direction, being at the Tirana Police office 50 hours later beside the murdered commissioner, while the unit’s radio link was not working? And the one who was declaring that “Rexhep and-riu had been torn to pieces before his eyes,” at a time when the victim’s body had been buried without an autopsy and nobody yet knew what was inside? On 4. 2 September of last year, the newspaper “Koha Jonë” itself, in its issue published on page 6, publicly denounced that instead of investigating the attack on the democratic deputy and former president Sali Berisha, the massacre on Azem Hajdari was carried out on the orders of high-ranking police figures. On 25 September? in its issue dated 24, through the headline “The killing of Azem Hajdari was an act of the state,” it openly alluded to the four most important people in the state police involved in this crime. 11 and a half months later, the entire top leadership of the police and SHIK resigned. The latest testimonies strengthened the conviction that the massacre of 12 September, as well as the later executions in this country, were carried out outside the normal mechanisms of the state, which were controlled and manipulated by individuals. “Why was it not investigated?” was the question that some of them asked the writer of these lines a year ago. The only answer received at the time was that “it is the state”. What does that mean? 12 September finally killed the communist myth that in Albania criminal organizations camouflaged behind the passport of the state cannot exist. This is the great, shocking question, to which a year later there is still no answer. Still. Can there be a modern society where it is unclear who ordered the killings, where their money comes from, and who then hides them for years? Is there in this country a state that grants itself the right to kill whomever it wants? Has this state ordered its police to kill and conceal the crime? Can responsibility be assigned without identifying the chain? Without having the names? These questions, once asked up close, are raised even more strongly today. The answer still delays.
