The government led by Prime Minister Meta, which oversees the implementation of sensitive issues, is working according to European standards! DAY'S ISSUE Meta: Albania is a modern state and not a feudal state! Without any complexes, as a matter of first-time governance, or of dialogue, but also of the way of the modern and European state, Mr. Meta also assessed the current political climate, describing it as very calm, thanks to the agreement reached a few days earlier. These are excerpts from Prime Minister Meta's speech, who, as part of his meetings with the electorate, held a meeting yesterday with the PS structures of the Berat district. Given the current events of the last few days and the speculations made around this topic by former Prime Minister Berisha, Mr. Meta said that everyone must understand that today's Albania deserves and is a modern state and not a feudal state! The government he leads, Meta said, is working according to the most modern European standards and cannot build its governance on the principle: "I am the state!". Speaking about the contrast with the government before him, Meta also recalled another point, since the change that has taken place in Albania must be clearly understood not only by Albanian citizens, but also by the international community. In concrete terms, Mr. Meta assessed that the achievements in the economy are clear compared with the previous government. Just in agriculture, he said, in 1997 1.2 times less wheat was planted than in 1996, 1.3 times less corn, 1.6 times less potatoes, 2 times less vegetables and 2.7 times less fodder. But that is not all. Livestock also shows the same downward picture. By contrast, last year, according to Mr. Meta, compared with 1997, 1.4 times more wheat was planted, 1.3 times more corn, 1.8 times more potatoes, 1.4 times more vegetables and 1.6 times more fodder. Meanwhile, work has continued to increase public investment. Work is also under way to support agricultural production, while the economic climate is improving. Page 6
