Lecturers are also quitting teaching

Students: without textbooks we turned into writing machines TIRANA Declared the year of reforms and major changes, this academic season is closing the doors of the university to students with other features. In addition to the worsening economy, the deterioration of material resources and lecturers’ salaries, it ended with a standstill in teaching and a tense atmosphere in the faculties. The table below gives data on students over recent years. There is a huge output of diplomas, but textbooks, practical training, laboratories and often even lecture halls are lacking. The University of Tirana remains the largest institution, but material conditions have worsened considerably. Lecturers’ salaries are low and some of them are thinking about leaving teaching. In the faculties, students’ concern has increased over the lack of books, the poor living conditions in dormitories, and the lack of prospects after graduation.

Fashion is born in Tirana

Although Çironi and the branch of the parna exporters dehë para mërihet with clear indications that the average income per person in the capital is 10-11 thousand lek per month, the filling of the new shops with imported goods has awakened a new fever among the young: fashion. In Tirana the first shop windows with items coming from Italy and Greece have been opened. Girls ask for short skirts, light jackets and fashionable shoes, while boys prefer jeans, sports shirts and sunglasses. However, prices remain the main obstacle. Parents complain that a pair of shoes or a dress costs as much as half a monthly salary. The passion for fashion is being born, but buying remains a luxury for only a few families. 1,000 Albanian children are waiting for help from Italy

As part of a major project for children suffering from heart disease TIRANA — The holy year of aid, with special attention to sick children, has also brought to Albania a major humanitarian project. According to preliminary data, around 1,000 Albanian children with heart problems need treatment, intervention or specialized checks, something the country is still unable to provide. Aid is expected to come from Italy through medical structures and charitable organizations. Italian doctors may come to Tirana to carry out examinations and select the most urgent cases, while some children may be sent abroad for treatment. This project has raised hope among many Albanian families who do not have the financial means to cover expensive treatment. However, the procedures are complicated and require institutional support.

To save the class stretch, I prefer to look at bitter cocoa or a light beer.

To save the class stretch, I prefer to look at bitter cocoa or a light beer. In the Albanian city, the windows of drink venues have become fewer, but in the evening it seems that cafés are replacing the old squares. Young people prefer the tables, light beer and long conversations. Some see this as a sign of civilization, others as a passing trend. In the absence of cinemas, theatres and many clubs, the venues are carrying the weight of social life. This also brings concerns about consumption, prices and the excessive presence of advertisements. In the end, the city is learning a new public behavior.
